1. Egypt shone with joy at his arrival,
Its light disdained the flowers of stars,

2. And the blessed one hurried to it with a heart
Full of love for people, compassionate and kind,

3. It welcomed him with praise and congratulations
When he came from the land of a great king,

4. And wished him eternity so that
Its people would enjoy his complete justice,

5. The prayer was answered and it succeeded
In getting what it desired in particular and general,

6. And its blessed one endowed it with troops
And fortresses to repel the might of foes,

7. He is its safe keeper and protector of its sanctuary,
And it is to the world the cradle of sciences,

8. May God ease in it the breast of its exalted one,
To attain wishes and suppress the enemy,

9. And clothe his cub with the finest attire
Of excellence, made by the best of designers,

10. Neither in sincerity did Majdi eulogize his glory,
Composing a poem about him of precious prose,

11. Nor did providence say, record for the Khedive
In Egypt the most beautiful of arrivals.
