1. O Lord, the physician has failed to cure
The illness which demolished my firm foundations

2. I am a servant of benevolence, weak, with no
Patience for severe trials

3. O Lord, medicine has become useless and the
Disease which weakened my pillars grew worse

4. It certainly harmed my throat and wasted
My intellect and senses

5. It spread wounds inside me
And their bleeding became boundless

6. In their ignorance they killed and severed
My hand from my elbow

7. Banishment was his due, if only they
Had thrown him alive in molten brass

8. Yet of wonders he's the first criminal
To excel in a club!

9. Soon he'll get what he deserves
Without consolation for what his right hand offered

10. And the wretch will say: Don't divide five into six
Be patient with the injustices of time, though my agony

11. And ingratitude will last as my funds run out
Until I die guided by my deeds to hell

12. With work that blackened my parchment
The doctor came but his treatment

13. Was no use, so he left with his ruler
The Jew applied caustic soda to my neck out of

14. Ignorance, severely burning me
Soon a large tumor appeared

15. On my neck, the size of a head
It prevented breathing and sleep, becoming

16. Like a mountain atop my chest
So my soul prepared for a journey

17. To find healing in the gardens of intimacy
And to leave the world without regrets

And live in the Abode of Eternity, blissful

34. To mention one who revives withered trees
Another tumor grew on my neck

35. Whose qualities shone like diamonds
Ibn Al-Hussein lanced it with a scalpel

36. Releasing most of the swellings
Pus and tar poured freely

37. From inside the bags
Ten by ten, then five, the wick’s

38. Arrow flew to the bowstring’s end
When it worsened, I said to my servant Fawzi:

39. By your success, man of fine character
Surgeon of Egypt, its expert and doctor

40. Who revived the wisdom of Ayyas
When he came and examined my condition

41. He strove to extract the trapped matter
He prescribed medication and diagnosed the illness

42. Missed by the group of ignorant quacks
O Lord, all have failed so heal me

43. Of what shakes towering pillars
O Lord, this illness makes me hesitate

44. To venture alone into the wild
O Lord, this illness weakened me

45. And turned plenty to scarcity
O Lord, if you do not heal me, who will?

46. Of an ailment on displayed parchment
O Lord, the nights of an illness have been long

47. That afflicted with utmost severity
O Lord, the enemy gloated, not knowing

48. That gloating is the way of every lowness
O Lord, relieve my anguish with wellness

49. And send blissful slumber to my eyelids
O Lord, my joints have all

50. Become disjointed from each other
O Lord, the harm I suffered suffices

51. So favor me with healing, I implore
O Lord, mountains have narrowed

52. Though they were once vast about my soul
O Lord, incantations did not benefit

53. Bahnasa neither did spells or potions
O Lord, treatments did not work, neither

54. Perfumes, nor herbs, nor medicines
O Lord, I have no means to salvation

55. Except through your prophet, the fragrant breeze
O Mustafa, if you do not intercede for me

56. In the terror of an illness with serpents
Who but you can intercede for me?

57. It is hard to cure, and you are Most Compassionate
O Best of Creation, the best of mankind

58. Disease nearly cut off my lifeline
It stripped all the flesh off the bones

59. Leaving the body devoid of any defense
So my body is exposed to sickness

60. O Lord, the physician has failed to cure me
This illness weakened the pillars of my being

61. I cannot withstand such severe trials
O Lord, medicine has proven useless

62. And this disease continues to worsen
It has certainly harmed me grievously

63. Wasting my mind, my senses and thoughts
It spread wounds inside me

64. With ceaseless bleeding that knew no bounds
In ignorance they sought my demise

65. Severing my hand from my arm
Banishment was deserved, if only

66. They had cast him alive in molten brass
Yet in wonders he's the first criminal

67. To thrive in that circle, beyond belief
Soon he'll get what he's earned

68. With no solace for what his hand has wrought
The wretch will say, do not divide
