1. Your cheeks among lovers are a sharpened sword,
And your nape is a supple, bending branch.

2. Your full moon in the horizon of sailing is unmatched,
Suns of morning whose lights kindle and ignite.

3. Your lips on them a string of pearls arranged,
Below them a gazelle asleep with languid eyes.

4. Your waist, O sweet of features, in my hand,
Nearly knots from the softness that is inside.

5. You are graceful, God created your form perfectly,
With outstanding beauty He gathered solely in you.

6. So give me the wine despite the blamer’s descent,
Who sinks into the valley of blame against you and helps.

7. For my time has been blessed with a government
Whose success in Egypt is a well-aimed vision.

8. God gave him a lofty, just chest to build
On justice in those lands established and formed.

9. And his mercy to all creation is a trait
By which each soul in gatherings bears witness.

10. The rain of his high hands each instant
Spills on the land of the destitute and brings joy.

11. O children of homelands, your ruler, his hands
Are uncounted, unbounded, unrestrained!

12. So stand by your duties to him and match
His efforts with unsparing thanks unfettered.

13. And say with me sincerely in your prayers,
May this honored counselor endure and stay!

14. For he has governed most excellently, by grace
Upon him in realms he is envied always.

15. O son of the Khedive of Egypt, our hearts
Are folded around our ordained love for you.

16. How not, when you revived our souls
With abundant generosity, a sweet spring to drink.

17. And you gave us of your honest promise what makes you
Prevail over all people and earn acclaim.

18. If you are absent, spirits race and yearn,
While visions without you are spurned and shunned.

19. Without you, poetry would not be allowed to compose,
Almost frozen in inability to praise you.

20. Without you the tongue would not reveal what filled
A heart loyal, intent upon you.

21. So live as a magnificent king, and suggest
To fate what you wish, for you are supported.

22. And succeed, O Heir Apparent, with bountiful praise
Everlasting, fulfilling all gladness, O Muhammad!

23. For the good tidings have spread of your arrival, which
Brought all that boy and elder hoped to gain.

24. You still represent the best lord in delegation,
His judgments well-supported by the vizier.

25. And still the king’s mouth chronicles Egypt
With my success and justice both secured.
