1. The cities of the mighty, wherein is happiness revealed,
And his good tidings for all peoples as harbinger,

2. The sky of Egypt adorned with stars,
For onlookers they shine bright.

3. The earth composed of the arrangement of stars has become,
From it to the heavens a light flows,

4. And its meadows give off gentle breezes,
With flowers they have been blessed.

5. The zephyr of the Nile valley blew with what
Above favor it holds, and so pure became its course,

6. And mankind under its guidance to righteousness’ domain,
Among the ranks pacing to and fro in its nobility.

7. Good fortune came to be tied down,
To its stirrups, and to its heights proceeding,

8. It is the happy, the generous master,
In Egypt mighty, its throne sublime.

9. By it the ships and steeds took pride,
Afore and it is worthy of such pride,

10. It cannot be matched in diverse matters,
Attained by neither Chosroes nor Sabur,

11. It is in ability and protection tested,
It is in knowledge and languages adept.

12. So may God protect it and guard its son,
As long as lightning flashed or illuminator shone,

13. Or as long as its feasts in Egypt lasted,
Victory and openings everlasting.

14. Or as long as the mention of its assumption day endured,
For its noble self, and joy spread,

15. Or as long as each year’s world and prince,
Hastened to honor it and ennoble,

16. Or as long as one swooned over its armies’ order,
To behold them on the battlefield looming,

17. Or as long as one spoke of its cub’s sagacity,
Speaking in the cradle while still small,

18. Or as long boast of virtues the like of it,
A generous master, knowledge’s ally,

19. Or as long in the world with its praise one hums,
A lifelong grateful servant’s psalms,

20. Or as long as blissful fortune records,
The cities of the mighty, wherein is happiness revealed.
