1. When misfortunes converged upon me,
And horses of disasters raced to reach me,

2. I called out as they closed in and hemmed me in:
Oh Lord, from all existence I am constrained!

3. The ways out grew perilous from every side,
The noose tightened though the veil was ripped.

4. On strong fetters the hand of fate took grip,
And all hopes were cut off from all mankind.

5. If You do not relief bring with favor wide,
Who but You can bring me aid and set me free?
