1. Since I saw the disobedient one obey his Lord
And turn to Him from every sin

2. His heart became as clear as polished mirror
Quenching with pure beauty the lover’s thirst

3. With harmony running through it
Where difference dwelled in hidden knowledge

4. Whenever gentleness passes it becomes sweet
Guiding a limpid, refreshing breeze to the youth

5. He is a sun whose radiance lights the meadow
Whose stars of flowers fade in his proximity

6. He bowed to God willingly in his prime
Yet he disobeyed, how strange is the beloved disobedient one!

7. The tendrils of the meadow bowed down to him
Wherever he, the nurturing root, may be

8. How gently he would rock many a cradle
To quiet the stirring babe in rhyme and rhythm

9. The child was reared tenderly in his lap
Dancing playfully, wandering in awe

10. Given the teat of precious milk - such delight!
The darling drinks the milk of his beauty

11. He circled Safa, striving in pilgrimage
Made the sanctuary secure, crying “Here I am!”

12. Saying, “My scent clings to my love”
Hers is the most sublime, and mine the remedy

13. She raised him, and no nursery was as flowery
If my lovers sought a pleasant stroll

14. On a meadow over a tender eye and heart
Grasping the train of Homs, clinging

15. To a paradise of nearness like me
Every disobedient one who seeks her protection

16. Willingly, without stain of sin
She is my neighbor from whom I sought refuge

17. His love forever suffices me
