1. We are the pilgrim party, we pitched the tents
Oh father of prophets, most generous, greetings

2. We came seeking to open hearts at your tomb
Yearning itself pulled our bodies hither

3. So we came to the station of father of generosity
If you go towards it, seeking no food or drink

4. So we made the tomb our place of worship
And took hold of the corner of the tomb in veneration

5. Then we circumambulated the corner, as Kabah’s pilgrims
Circling upon arrival, striving, standing in prayer

6. And in salaams to you, we did our prayers
Where for all people you were once imam

7. A sanctuary secure, I came in and received good news
Upon entering this station of Abraham

8. All who fall under your protection are made inviolate
Saved from the spears of assassins, their blood made sacrosanct

9. Yearning guided us here, so time cannot
Stab at us with its arrows in this sanctuary

10. We sensed astonishment at arrival, so we breathed in
From it, before all cities, a scent, a smile

11. Men probed the wound in a heart broken from separation
Pierced by the arrows of time, their hurt made plain

12. The best of men hoped your noble character would restore
Order from chaos, and from you, systems made sane

13. How could the blemish of hypocrisy not vanish
When from your shining face you lifted the veil?

14. And we see the raiment of acceptance appeared
Out of a sublime station, your place exalted

15. How could the fire of Nimrod not turn, due to you
To coolness for people, and peace for all?

16. Succor, succor, O you who are indeed succor
Nay, you are the rain, gentleness and harmony

17. You, guardian of neighbors, protector of the bonds
Of pilgrims who surrendered their reins to you

18. You are my sufficiency—as for me, I have not
Said to one who desired other than you, my wish or aim

19. O father of prophets—upon you peace
From a lover whose passion for you only grew

20. I make pilgrimage in yearning for you, and I am
Now praying to you, fasting from all but union

21. The offering of offerings concludes with the return
Of our greetings of peace, peace be upon you

22. And upon your noble family, the first of men, protectors
Of sanctuary, dew and sharp swords to guard the faithful

23. No breeze blew from the garden of your tomb
Without bestowing the fragrant breath of Khuzama

24. We kissed the threshold when we found in its soil
The musk of acceptance, sealed as a signet ring
