1. The full moon's orb emerges radiant from behind the veil
Its beauty embellished with splendor and glory

2. Its smile reveals rows of pearl-like teeth
Whoever tastes its wine is intoxicated

3. If you are wise in love be wise
Either passionate or inspiring passion

4. Braving its tumultuous sea
Submit and you will be safe in its sanctuary

5. Woe to him whose malady is desire
Whose endeavor is futility, whose tears are sincerity

6. A perplexed soul, an inflamed heart
Confused feelings, exhausted patience

7. Deaf ears, muted tongue
My heart is torn, my being aflame

8. My state fragmented, yet cohesive
An undiagnosed illness, an undefeated will

9. Cohesive, yet not adhered
Assembled, though my companions smiled

10. And in it I sought refuge and meditated and imagined
With fervor and rectitude I upheld its ways

11. And in it I found support, strengthened
Unfaltering, if my words are just

12. I profess in words, though if I refrain
I become blind, deaf, and mute

13. Despite the evident, radiant proof
His nose defiant though deprived

14. Of its heady wine, unable to even smell
Its gleaming light, unable to perceive

15. Its fragrant scent, so refined is he
Unblemished, if rhymed in love

16. Victorious, by it graced
Yet unrewarded, thus futile

17. For I am deluded, truly ignorant
Folly, nonexistence, though claiming wisdom

18. Ignorant knowledge, unless my Lord grants discernment
A glowing servant, though soon to expire
