1. The scent of the garden wafted on the breeze
Between the flowers and stream that it did please

2. The gloom of night now lit with morning rays
As camphor white lit up the darkness' maze

3. The dew then dripped from star jasmine so fair
As beloved’s saliva might drip, unaware

4. No pearls appeared on blades of grass so green
But tears that shimmered there were plainly seen

5. Above the rose’s red do blushes spread
As though the red cheeks modestly were clad

6. Behold! a garden wrapped in light so bright
With drops of rain embroidered day and night

7. A silken fabric over flowers descending
As wings of darkness with blooms attending

8. Leaves of myrtle shake off from their tree
Like green gowns trailing gracefully and free

9. The pliant boughs bend low in gentle tides
Slender as youths, their every charm besides

10. Their branches float like sprays of violets sweet
Their fluttering gowns from tips of toes to head

11. The sun beams down and glints off of their sheen
As the Frankish sword glints bright and keen

12. And as we passed the sketches there portrayed
Like writing flowing without pause or fade

13. I smelled a blossom's scent quiet and mild
And said "a beauty graced in nature's style"

14. Intellect flashed in the wings of a cloud
And I said "Sulamiya's in graces enshrouded"

15. A narcissus wound round a bending bow
Like an armband round a slender waist just so

16. I declared my longing, a dove complained
But who was the lover, from passion refrained?

17. I will cloak the night in the direction of their tents
On my steed's smooth back, all environment spent

18. In splendor as though the moon underneath
Were lighting the tresses of a beauty unseen

19. My right hand will be filled with the swinging sea
Of a sword whose sharpness determines one's fee

20. In peace and in war, panic in horsemen spreads
As Ishmael’s repute by land and sea does spread
