1. The lightning flashed its gleam upon your abode
So it startled your gardens when it flashed

2. Look how the standard's roseate silks have flowed
And the gales make it dance and waiver

3. As if the lightning in the gloom were a secret
That revealed itself to none but its concealer, then divulged

4. The parting of dawn shared with me my agony
So I let fall my tears and lamented

5. How weary I was of visiting one whose waterskin was empty,
If he had visited al-Muwaffaq, he'd have found rest

6. And between its threshold and the open meadow was a distance
Nor can we hope that the distance between them will be joined
