1. They lamented the loss of poetry made free
By one who nurtured it so tenderly

2. Time grieved the passing of an age called “Zahaa”
That was adorned with “Hafez” and cloaked in melancholy

3. The shining star declined beyond the height
Of lofty glory, dazzling sights as it sank low

4. Take solace that we miss him, feel deprived
Of an easy grace and nature gently flowing

5. That his light spirit’s saddened in a home
Too somber for the living, his last station

6. A guest among reconstructed parts, diverse
United only formerly by his situation

7. That he who filled all gatherings with life
Remains among the people only as memories biding

8. Our care has lapsed, and we have parted
With seemly farewells; may God now care for him

9. The earth enfolds a tongue of purest salt
Not every seasoned critic it endows

10. A homeland for gentility, source of
Refinement and tenderness, knowing when to chide

11. His easy speech pleased the simple, and often
Perplexed the articulate, their skills to hide

12. Time’s long trials have thinned and refined his vines
Purifying the dross, leaving pure gold inside

13. He picked his lofty words with utmost care
Subduing rhymes, adorning them like a bride

14. Extending them with imagination’s daughters
Cascade from peaks to depths, far and wide

15. Whatever subtle meaning he improved
Was made sublime by “Hafez’s” artful touch, his pride

16. If only rhymes could speak their gratitude
For the beauty he bestowed, preserving it inside

17. Maidens of thought bear the lasting essence
Of “Hafez,” a sweet vestige, his imprint applied

18. Imagination cannot create one’s feelings
But pieces of his being, remnants scattered wide

19. Brother of ardor, gentle in each verse
One feels the warmth, glimpses dark waves beside

20. Master of rhymes, smooth flow in arrangement
Never forced or difficult, but dignified

21. Son of many pure years, pages open
Generous beauty from first to last reside

22. If death diminished his power and ravaged his frame
His rhymes comfort throughout the days and nights

23. Were we enchanted by some magic in his verse?
Do our souls cherish each line, tenderly collide?

24. His positions were soldiers in formation
Cloaked in wisdom, none before him so supplied

25. He walked Egypt unfaltering, shot his arrow
Conquering with skill, each cast arrow true to its guide

26. The rhymes flowed from a heart filled to overflowing
With profound thought both in form and meaning allied

27. Giving due respect, noting what ears wish to hear
Needs dictate detail, but essence he provides

28. Bringing unseen, speaking the unspoken
Or voicing what all knew inside

29. His speech poured forth like gold filigree
Comforting verse wherever it spread its lines

30. Today my aching heart spills with sorrow at his loss
Consoled only by rhymes of his, tears collide

31. In grief, my chest constricts at his absence
From life and all that filled it, nothing can subside

32. Enough for time and people, diminishing
That “Hafez’s” verse still flows in poetry’s tides

33. What care for time and souls who briefly shone
Did his comfort not dwell in verses abide?

34. To die, seek not that world you left before
One of countless victims, casualties scattered wide

35. Son of contentment, though fate may test
And time enchant with free abandon, the ride

36. You bore life's sorrows and troubles, disdaining
Afflictions that test the wise, their spirit collide

37. Tokens of your enduring spirit revealed
A life of refusal, joys and sorrows collide

38. Through rhymes we learned of one with hardened will
Time's wheel could not sway him, whatever betide

39. He waged with life, learned its essence within
No secrets withheld from his gaze, though they hide

40. Of struggles honor demands though the soul denies
Of positions that grieve the heart, its flood inside

41. Of sorrows that test the soul's load to its depths
Stirring vengeance though the pain has subside

42. We've lost the sight that pierces veils of time
Or the hour yearned for though desires divide

43. His mouth spilled of fate and refuse its sway
Yielding not though it passed as the rising tide

44. When life's toil persists, who craves death release?
A respite desired when burden and spirit collide

45. I had loved these verses foretelling his death:
"I bid farewell as tears pour from my eyes inside

46. My soul churns, my heart pierced as he departs"
