1. As ransom for your resting place adorned with the finest pearls,
Exhaling the fragrances of heavens and emitting the best musk.

2. To quench your land on the day of deprivation,
And to mourn you, with souls imprisoned by your chaste approach.

3. To guard your glory from humiliation by what you abhor of novelty,
O you who attained the highest rank unattainable by intercession.

4. O you, advice to the ambitious heedless of their tomorrow,
You emerged from a refuge for the frightened, and your grave was blessed as a refuge.

5. Eras kneel before it and prostrate, taking shelter at its sides.
I sensed your soil so the breeze of dignity blew from your hero's mound.

6. I rubbed my cheek until a cheek attained delight and did not ache,
And where the steeds of tyrants roamed, they did not dare trespass.

7. I was alone as memories soared with my soul to a loftier world.
I circumambulated your grave in the imagination of an inspired recluse.

8. As if a severed red hand from beyond the tomb,
Reached out to a world flooded with injustice and oppression,

9. Flailing in a jungle that engulfed either a wolf or a predator,
To replace the conscience of the oppressed with another downtrodden one,

10. And to push these fragile souls fearfully to a more impenetrable sanctuary.
You emerged from a lightning that flickers if an igniting spark kindles.

11. It envies thunderbolts that neither alleviate harm nor benefit,
And did not sow seeds in the aftermath, though it burned, and did not plant.

12. It did not vacate its celestial towers, nor come down to earth,
Nor sever evil from its root, or extract the rot from hearts.

13. Nor did it shock people from their abject morals.
You emerged from an orbit vaster than the widest circumference,

14. O son of the immaculate, I suffice with her as surety for all I claim,
And O son of one peerless in conception and birth,

15. O son of the incorrupt womb and the resolute hero,
O branch of Hashim none flowered or branched better,

16. O you who completed the eternal anthem beginning and end alike,
People pace to the footsteps of time, zigzagging and swerving,

17. While you steer the course of eternity unfailingly straight.
I imagined your day in my thoughts and echoed your voice in my hearing,

18. Scrutinizing your matter, neither reacting to narrators, nor being deceived.
Perhaps the echo of your momentous event across ages,

19. And the chants of devoted preachers in prose and verse,
And the elegy pouring upon you evening and dawn in poetry and tears,

20. Were due to politics and its machinations against someone close or claiming nearness,
And its banishment of all guided by your rope or adhering to your creed.

21. Perhaps this stems from the innate painful grief over the calamitous,
And its hand in distorting the tale of Hussein with a desired colorful twist,

22. Yet it remains erect if resolutions are sought, whatever it wants it devises.
When I unveiled the overlay of centuries, and the guise of the deceiver,

23. I desired the “truth” in its essence, unadulterated and untouched.
I found you in an image unparalleled in greatness or brilliance.

24. What could be more brilliant than your flesh sacrificed over slaughter,
That you fear not for your conscience bound by the permitted,

25. And you feed death the best of sons from infants to the grown,
The best of the Prophet’s kin, and his daughter’s best,

26. The best souls protected you with their chests and arms.
I sanctified your commemoration, neither feigning piety nor pretending.

27. You delved into my heart though doubts clamored within its walls,
And clouds of disturbing worries poured over me,

28. Until winds blew from sweet basil and the righteous, steady and unshifting.
You overcame the darkness in my mind and straightened my contorted ribs,

29. And I had faith like one whose only proof against doubt is reason.
So the evidence led the helm willingly to you in submission.

30. You enlightened what darkened of my ideas and rectified my crooked sides,
And I became certain like one who sees none but reason to resort to against suspicion,

31. That stubbornness, revelation, and prophetic bounty derive from a pure essence transcending worldly temptation.
