1. The vigor of youth and its poured wine
Will emit fragrance from your meadows and be sweet

2. And from spring, freshness is in your faces
It glistens. And from the first fruits of life a tax

3. And from chivalry a flowing chain
Of what overflows, it almost pours a cup

4. And if a guiding star disappears for you
Or an arduous predicament, stranger, arises

5. And a plight becomes severe, and a strait becomes tight
And paths become desolate for us and roads

6. A lantern that illuminates the confused, and stars
We seek refuge in their lights and return

7. The world frowns, and a misery therein scowls
And life is fraught with calamities

8. Until when “youth” smiles, they melt away
Like clouds in beautiful morning dissolve

9. O you who cling to “lessons” as if they are
The hunger of falcons for prey they crave

10. And those who abstain from pleasures, their only care
Is “a bell” that rings, a pulpit and a preacher

11. They neglected the trysts of affection, and to them
Between the seats an appointment is set

12. Dearer to them than a lovely face
Is the “face” of “the book” and its beloved betrothed

13. Iraq without your support is indeed
Without a protector, barren and waterless land

14. Long live your arms, for they are guarantors
To reclaim what was stolen, rights robbed

15. And your emotions have thrived, so what wealth
Can we reward a loyal one and gift?

16. For you are you – and none but you
Are the country’s hope and desired reserve

17. And you, when no conscience remains
For the two rivers, are conscience and hearts

18. And you, if our pages are corrupted
With deficiencies committed and sins

19. The pure ones are like rainwater from the sky
No speck stuck to them or flaws

20. We have spanned the distance and our lifespans neared
And we spent experimenting

21. Our eras collaborated and intermingled
And reprimand and rebuke befell us

22. And our steps faltered from the arduous
Journey, strain, and bringing together

23. To see you the lofty example for a nation
That aspires to its goals and hits target

24. A nation that did not embrace its hopes
Tomorrow to your bosom it will return

25. And tomorrow a father will atone for the injustice
He committed by hand of his son and repent

26. So unite, for tomorrow whose dawn
Is near you. And every hopeful is near

27. And look ahead; a torch its light radiates
Kindled will illuminate the path

28. And ally so no misguided one divides you
Or a sneak infiltrates your ranks

29. And remember the colonists, for they are
A scourge upon this country and sieging foes

30. So understand Iraq with its goodness
And wealth, is plundered by their ilk

31. And differentiate, for among them is an avowed
Enemy, and another veiled in deceit

32. Equally in one bag a colonist
Or one who takes his place and vilifies

33. Beware to be fooled by your success
In what is recited and transcribed

34. Or think the path as in your days
Among the classes “paved” and spacious

35. Life will test your struggle
With success that wears down and failing

36. And self-sacrificing, their nighttime reward
God, education, and training recompensed

37. Their fatigue and best of one who struggles
Is a fatigue that mobilizes a “suffering” nation

38. Oh brother “Aboud” I do not lack
In praise of you. But ingratitude is unseemly

39. If tedium and “Al-Hussein” have touched you both
Or if you both endured hostility and fighting

40. For you both and the poets are alike
As a candle guiding others and melting

41. Does any planter thrive like this, his
Planting fragrant and sweet?

42. And is immortality sweeter than what you both
Have, and state of the immortal is wondrous

43. They do not feel their existence. And their existence
Before existence, and above it is ordained
