1. After you left, Abd al-Aziz, no great man remains
Since you chose to depart, oh eminent one.

2. What legacy have you left Islam with?
It is obscure and its expanse has narrowed.

3. In every land where there was once a pulpit
They reminisce morning and night.

4. They reminisce your famous stands-
You left no room for contention.

5. And your recent feats among the victorious-
And your sublime aspirations that ascended high.

6. What is this genius they describe?
Except your life embodied.

7. The inspired mind gone-
That surged ahead into events.

8. And the eloquent tongue stilled-
That overflowed tomorrow in floods of creativity.

9. No difference between your listeners, so immersed,
And the quenched drinking directly from you.

10. When you pulled the reins taut-
The jingling settled softly in your palms.

11. Those taut reins would please the greatest leader
If he could wield them to charge ahead.

12. The horizons echo its reverberations-
And chant its verses in hymns.

13. Alas Abd al-Aziz, brother in God-
One who attained your stature reaches his hopes.

14. Neither humankind nor life itself knew
One whose charming nature they did not know.

15. Etiquette did not know how it was embodied
In a gallant man who did not accompany you long.

16. It is as if your Lord, when creating you, refused
That you not be perfected.

17. You rise gentler than the breeze but if passions flare
You turn into a drawn sword.

18. In the blessing of placid bearing but if transgressed
You see a lion separate from its pack.

19. A lion, when it roars for Ahmad's nation
It fills the Euphrates and Nile with its roar.

20. Valiant one who did not see humiliation imposed
Without extending his strong arm.

21. Content with tribulation, misfortune and suffering
Even imprisonment, lest he live in disgrace.

22. He pardons offenses against him swiftly
But does not pardon if Islam's flame is extinguished.

23. He made jihad for his people his purpose
And lived out his life estranged and deprived.

24. Dangers do not seem great in his eyes
As long as he sees their rights unfulfilled.

25. Oh you who left a great void-
Alas, only the extraordinary can fill it.

26. I swore I will not forget our bond, guardian,
Until I am buried in the soil.

27. You left me a heart torn apart for you
Flowing with my lifeblood and tears.

28. And I asked my tears to answer my soul
So it poured forth questioning and questioned.

29. May I forget my parents and family
If I forget your recorded favors.

30. Since you are righteous to me as myself
And if you fall ill, I fall ill.

31. I yearn for our reunion in the hereafter
As if we are in the former life.

32. Best of companions and essence of intimacy, say:
Did you leave one like you, kept secret?

33. Events have concealed their wounds from you
While the sword earns stripes from the executioner!

34. Your existence inspired lofty ambition
To ascend into the highest heaven.

35. Do you think I will remain abundant after you?
Alas, remaining has become scarce.

36. Oh Master, out of love for you
Abd Al-Aziz passed away infatuated and bemused.

37. Rain upon the soil the rain of acceptance
And make him, Lord, near You a lodger.

38. He was one who acted with goodness in life
So reward him in the Abode of Eternity with goodness.
