1. The night's neck was slain by the swords
Of the astute son of Zakaa while he was unsheathed

2. Su'ad spent the night depressed over it all and awoke
With the bounties of life cloaking her

3. When the morning breeze gently stirred her tent
The dew burdens settled upon it

4. Until the sun of morning arose
Su'ad got up with her bosom's wrap undone

5. Su'ad rose to greet us, the moon is not
Carried on a staff over the sand dunes

6. The beauties she revealed have no equal
And no seeker can attain the like of them

7. We say she's a full moon or a tender branch to compare her
But our words, oh friend, are but similes

8. So do not be fooled by any likeness of her
For she is above analogies and marvels

9. Until the heart she captivated was inflamed with passion
Su'ad appeared and today my heart is ruptured

10. It tries to follow her steps
But how can one bound to a bier keep up?

11. She roams the broad desert in every direction
Sloughing off her mantle's train as she wanders

12. Embroidered with speckles, her wrapping was torn
As a garment caught on thorns is shredded

13. So mourn at the ruins with melancholy, for blood
Was shed on ruins in melancholy

14. She was the pride of our finest hours now gone
With worries defeated and cares dispelled

15. Those nights I recall and sob
And my eyelids twitch and tears start flowing

16. We reveled in them as youth bid welcome
And life was lush with mortals thronging

17. In every vale of shelters none but sang
The tender-eyed gazelle's weeping song

18. As for those nights, they've come and gone
Leaving us, once children, now decrepit

19. Su'ad left us and we've replaced her with grief
For all things on earth are subject to change

20. So do not be fooled by the glamour of your world
For its glitz is all delusions

21. We were guided to a valley gone astray
With ruinous depravity surrounding us

22. Each day it sets more traps for mankind
And people get snared and entangled there

23. But whoever strives to avoid its deviation
Has his efforts bound to blessings

24. While he who deliberately ruins himself
Must know the throne of blasphemy will topple

25. How many peoples has God shaken for their blasphemy
And generations before them were destroyed

26. For the Merciful shall have no respite
To destroy the heretic - for the heretic is accursed

27. Hasn't the sword of Tunis unsheathed?
To curb injustice now that is banned

28. Today justice is a bridge between mankind
And tyranny and sacrilege are suppressed

29. By the pure hand of a blessed destiny in auspice
Though the arrogant pretend and gossip

30. Mightier, more magnanimous than any with breadth in his capacity
Taller, of longer build in his tallness

31. Lit with determination and insight
His heart aflame with love of God

32. Pursuing his goal with steadfast guidance
When the guided missile overcomes obstacles

33. The crest of the faithful gathers under his turban
Where victories are toasted with wine

34. With a battalion of stalwarts, every heavily-armed
A friend at wartime, a fearsome warrior

35. Who hurls his foe with his battlecry
When the call to prayer rises with exaltation

36. Thanks be to God for this era's champion
Can the like of his glorious achievements be matched?

37. The days are too short to fully do him justice
And the eyes of his haters squint with envy

38. When stirred, nothing withstands his wrath
And trials arise immediately

39. Nothing can contain his generosity
As a water-skin contains water

40. That breast guards truths
Scattered yet purposeful and transmitted

41. Graced with unique compositions
Though separated, with beauty and detail

42. Some are clear methods of guidance
Led by wisdom and reasoning

43. Clarifying any question's mystery
Though many conjecture on its meaning

44. God is Greatest! Such is the bounty of our Master
But what praise or accolade can do him justice?

45. All humanity aspires for the debt of his favor
Yet falls short, for the debt of gratitude remains outstanding

46. Stay your pace, Abu Hassan, son of Hussein
For you, my lords, are but fine steeds

47. Tunis the Green boasts of you
With no rivals across its lands

48. Your nobility suffices, House of Hussein
Is any describer of you left wanting?

49. I praise you inadequately, hoping
My excuse with the Creator is accepted

50. And though an adversary of your valiant heroes
The generations extol their glory

51. O king whose realms have no parallel
Though your blessings on earth are unmatched

52. You are the rising full moon of the West
With the East in your light enveloped

53. So submit, your might protects alliances
And destroys foes, ensuring justice

54. And hold fast to the pure white Hanifi way
With truth, and to success God holds the key
