1. I protect your glory in the name of the One, the Unique
From the harm of the ominous and the gloom of the dispirited

2. And may God extinguish the light of envious souls, so nothing
Can diminish your greatness except envy

3. Abu Shujaa’, may God protect you from every angel
In the heavens, for none like you exists among people

4. As for parting, its she-camels will come to us
Tomorrow, and the tribe will be ready to depart the day after tomorrow

5. God knows I do not rejoice in this
But I fear the misery of my family and children

6. Can there be misery for them in this world
Like my absence from them, while my means are scarce?

7. But by God, your face is more precious to me than theirs
And they are the flesh of my flesh and bone of my bone

8. You are, O best of kings, a country in which
I am more fortunate than my own homeland

9. So I ask God to fulfill the meeting between us
And to make it a reunion that will last forever
