22. Whoever meets the sun of religion meets a man
Who sits while his enemies stand,

Would not know any king except the avenger,

26. He never uttered vile words in any gathering
Or listened to the lies of speech,

27. Neither is his illumination ever dim
Nor are his clouds of generosity mere drizzle,

28. He pleased the God of the Throne with His creation
Since he came to power, and pleased the Imam,

29. He is so virtuous, never has the brother of wealth
Clung to him out of greed,

30. How many frightening situations has he resolved
When anxieties pressed like childbirth pains,

31. Seeing what befell his brothers

Melting in sorrow and longing for doves,

Has worried about losing his blessings,

34. He cared for the poor and gave them life
And respected the wealthy with utmost respect,

35. While others when put in charge
Left nothing beneath the skin except bones,

36. With beating, crucifixion, slitting of lips
Pulling out fingernails, and branding of faces,

37. Having no shame for white hair or mercy for the youth of boys,
How many fine horses were brought out improperly

38. Led to be whipped without dignity,
No immoral act calling for prescribed punishment

39. Or deserving of depriving the servants,
Do not call the sun of religion anything but savior of mankind,

40. For that name befits him, not the oppressive tyrants,
O Basra, lose yourself in rapture over him

41. For he is the most courageous and determined king,
And he is the sole one in this world

42. In wisdom, knowledge, munificence and resolve,
He brought security and pushed away terror

43. Reduced and about to expire,
He did not turn his cheek arrogantly

45. O pure of any blemish or defect,
O one resembling Dhul Qarnayn from his lineage

46. The glorious kings, honorable sons of Jurhum,
As if Basra since you conquered it

47. Was shards of a scabbard from which swords were drawn,
Instead of your affection it felt desolation
