1. In every day are tribulations for me
What are the events of time and what are they to me?

2. That sadden me each passing day
With loss of wealth or noble lineage

3. I see evil ahead and behind and beware
The arrows of harm on right and left

4. When I say some worries have lifted, tribulations come
More piercing than spearheads

5. It's as if misfortunes and fates conspired
Against my hopes, undoing my status

6. Cursed is Time, how it provokes me
To cross the seas or cleave mountains

7. It demands I race the steed though crippled
Hind legs twisted, forelegs bent

8. The bone's marrow sucked out, its wrap undone
And strength replaced by frailty

9. Can the lame steed cross the track though it range
All the meadows in vigorous gallop?

10. I say, when pondering my state
And affairs and state of weak ones and mine

11. Oh would I were a crane in the lowlands,
Tethered by ostrich thread in the dunes.

12. Not known the vile ones, not bound
By rope to despicable men like them

13. Then I'd see naught but ruin offering
A sweet tongue but deceitful speech

14. With manners of cat in its gentle slyness
Yet harsh as viper to the touch

15. I come, it fawns and feigns delight
Looking on me with reverent eye

16. Turn away a moment from its gaze
It maligns me in every way

17. To God I complain of company
The worst of past times and of present

18. I kept their company judiciously yet found them
Grievous torture in utmost ordeal

19. If I say time's bosom has softened, their
Ill nature and ugly traits refuse

20. I've no fault but nobility and skill
Glory, a home in glorious tribe

21. My leaning to the meek and exalted
With affection, hating the arrogant

22. My knowledge of their fathers and forefathers
And contempt for gossip among people

23. For I know a day none can reverse
No stumbler can deny his words

24. The Almighty Lord is not swayed
His decree is just, His rule sound

25. I indulge them until it's as if I
Am captive of their taunts or queries

26. Though if I wished, I could be the indulged one, for my
Lineage runs long among the tribes

27. If I called, every hero would answer
My day ready, gear at hand

28. Mountains, if the clan of turmoil stirred
Stallions and men, not hill-like mass

29. Against each branded rump of theirs the tribe's
Fillies come on raids from behind raids

30. Offspring of Halab, Kayd and Lahiq
And Gir and Ukal, full-grown, hobbled

31. By them we trampled many a clan and quarter
Through time, with lawful cause

32. The fool, if he called, I see his call
Only wheezing she-camels respond

33. Bearing tools made ready
To reap, not to strike fake riches

34. On each forearmed one can be found
A paternal uncle's bastards and maternal kin

35. Quarrelling are long-necked she-camels
With trailing ears weighing them down

36. Theirs is toil where they are, hers is hers
Lawful or not by God on high

37. I shun the evil days, but their revels are
Futile, their threats mere mirage

38. I find it ravenous yet unable
To achieve honor, left and right

39. As if it held a grudge against each glorious
Beauty, jewel of the people

40. So say to villainous rabble, wait,
Nights pass, followed by nights

41. If the days sleep soundly
Many a wakeful one brings decay

42. Without the sun's setting, dusk would not gather
Without gloom, the stars' light not shine

43. Let not the vile hope for us, we are
Pastureland, but rabble are just litter

44. If Hutaym gained Hashim's wealth
It would still be Hutaym, don't be fooled by mirage

45. It will revert to its donkeys
And patched tents and worn-out shoes

46. Have patience, soon you will reap what it planted
Fruits of affliction, ripe and heavy

47. Else, by glory of Abi's line of kings,
No noble deed occurred to my mind

48. Each is wont to what Allah decreed
He will attain, if he gained means entire

49. Soon you will see the sun so bright
It dims the named stars and full moon

50. How then if it fell from grace
No jewelry could match the loss of its beauty

51. He who Allah graced with nobility
Will remain, through effort, exalted

52. I have a witness, neither absent nor remote
Who shows people the truth of my words

53. When Jarwan's kin were struck
With ignoble sickness beyond their honor

54. Their enemies wished to seize what they had
Of glory - O my people, what blindness!

55. Greed made them kill the chief, though nothing resulted
But eviction and plunder of wealth

56. They gained only toil, though they fancied
Their minds as intelligent as scholar's minds

57. Does any deed enrich without wealth or sate
Thirst like water sating the parched?

58. Only a year passed before I saw them
By grace of their status, in utmost comfort

59. Their opponents take refuge with them, humbled
As lice when scratched flock to the scratcher

60. Had they wished, their homes would become
Places traversed by days in emptiness

61. But pardoning is their nature
Whether excusing or punishing a companion

62. It is the due of a house whose son is Abdallah
Glory everlasting in utmost perfection

63. Who meets Ibrahim meets Tarah's son
Steadfast in faith and resolve sublime

64. And Jacob's son, esteemed Joseph
The prophet of guidance, pure and beautiful

65. A noble one descended from Lukayz and Aamir
At the highest station of lineage and honor

66. By my father, his qualities are the clearest spring
Sweeter than purest rainwater

67. A brother, cousin, when I call, and father
Loyal ally and relative, never treacherous

68. It suffices the Lord of two seas every glorious one
Bowed by burdens heavy to carry

69. Without Him the lofty edifice would falter
And the ages wear it down with their filing

70. May his long and revered prosperity endure
To geld the arrogant or deny the attainment of wants

71. And may his grandfather's glory ever rise
And prosper, with the water of the crescent moon undimmed
