1. Repose returned after her state declined,
Her beauty and grace were restored again.

2. My gardens in Ma'rib's land she makes proud,
With nights the rain of heaven makes lawful.

3. So fair when settled is her state,
And what afflicted her is gone away.

4. With Umm Awbah, chief of Ma'ymoon, if she marched,
Mountains would move in fear upon the earth before her.

5. Through him the land of Hays became upright,
Though its uprightness had wearied people before.

6. When he's away, its springtime goes away,
And if he comes, its fruitfulness comes in.

7. A youth who's always been feared and hoped for,
When its men fall short on a day of need.

8. So a tyrant fears him and a frightened man hopes in him,
And a widow whose husband jestingly died.

9. He takes the words of men with one expression,
Though their arguing against that falls short.

10. East and West kings wish that he
Were a right hand and that both worlds were the left.

11. Courage when called out by name on horses
Has no room for strategy against him.

12. And if after weariness, horses weakened,
Mention of him removes their weariness.

13. And if fearful fate descends, his house
Is the high plateau of earth and its hills.

14. And if the smallpox descends on a tribe’s abode,
He pastures them, even if the meadows are small.

15. His might made ‘Uqayl glorious, so it leaned
On him, though before it wearied others by leaning.

16. He sufficed it and enriched it with his palm’s attainment
And the wealth of his enemies, so it became haughty while he was its wealth.

17. He brought it down to the abode of enemies with his sword,
So their ankle rings before it became like beetles.

18. And he brought it to Mashrafiyy watering places
Unlawful without the Mashrafis are their camels’ drinking.

19. He established covenants between ‘Amr and ‘Amir
Too weak for men’s hands are their loosening.

20. By my life, excellent is the one called upon when he appeals
For an affliction that weighed down heavily in endurance.

21. And excellent are the people’s tongues if it’s said “Who is for it?”
A speaker, while the speech of those present falls short.

22. And excellent is the descent of nomads when they come,
Shaking the tent pegs after stillness.

23. And excellent is the refuge of penitents when time grows harsh
And the year brings misfortune to a people’s region.

24. And excellent is defending the frontier, while before it
Are the excuses of those of high rank and sickness.

25. So, O highest, of glory and fame, whose branch
Has thrived and whose shade has increased in fragrance!

26. By your life, since you left us no life was wholesome for us
Nor did our eyes cease flowing with tears.

27. That is only for a delightful yearning
To kiss a palm that is not for all to attain.

28. I incline it toward life, mercy, death, and it suffices
The seekers to incline tearfully toward it.

29. So live forever, O Abu ‘Ali, in might
Greater than the bitterness of nights has its grandeur!

30. For were it not for you no banner would remain
For glory, and loosing its ropes would be sure.

31. Be earnest, be diligent for Jarwan’s family, they
Are swords that lop off the hands of your envious foes.

32. They sacrificed themselves freely for what gladdens you,
While the fire of war blazed in burning.

33. They crushed the summits of strongholds and unsheathed
The gleaming swords newly polished.

34. Tomorrow Abu Jarrāh attacks like
An ostrich of the wasteland chased by its young.

35. They drove enemies away from protecting you and they split
The skulls of those whose misguidance was lasting.

36. And I advise you well about the entire clan,
For after God you are their recourse.

37. You are the one who revived and rescued them,
Though the enemies’ talk about them was much.

38. So don’t worry about the words of slanderers maligning them,
For the envious only attain by that their own ruin.

39. Disregard the words of the talebearers, for they
Are about suspicions they cannot attain.
