1. Not you but your foes are to blame for misfortune
And your envious ones get only dust, not fortune

2. People and lands are yours, and those who spend
Generously to ward off evil are your ransom

3. O noblest of the Prophet's friends, crown of faith
You with whom praise is adorned and enhanced

4. May health endure only if you are healthy
For your detractor no health remains in his limbs

5. And worldly life lasts only if you live
It vanishes for those who wish you gone

6. Since you fell ill, all nobility and hopes
Are in pain, and glory and eminence too

7. On earth and sky there are signs of gloom
And darkness, murky and obscure

8. But when you recovered, the land shone bright
With a light whose radiance dazzles and awes

9. The nobles and men of rank cried: Be glad!
For the plagues are gone, no more woes!

10. So let the mighty and the humble rejoice over you
And the weak and the ill gain strength anew

11. O son of Mahmud, who deserves all praise
From all who live under the sun's rays

12. Through you, time itself grew young again
And generosity lived, though once it was slain

13. When you are gone, all people will feel the loss
Of knowledge, wisdom, pledge-keeping, and grace
