1. The days refused to relent, continuing relentlessly,
So woe to my misfortune, neither for nights nor for me.

2. Whenever I said that lenience from them was near,
I saw its calamities towering as they were.

3. I wish I had confidants whom I had stored
To relieve my worries, not burden me.

4. And the strangest that fate brings is that
I see my people attacking me with the hands of my men.

5. Yet I'm the elegy that suffices,
And the peak of its heights was my paternal uncle's and uncle's home.

6. Oh, I wish I knew who would stand for its glory
In my position and tend to its affairs as I was its shepherd.

7. By my life, it has weakened a generous horse and shaken
A pillar, when terror casts down the pole.

8. Has it not tested me in matters and found
Ambitions sufficient for critical affairs?

9. Bearing the burdens of the clan, wandering
The lifetime regarding what I strove for and missed.

10. I say, while my concerns for youths
Climbing lofty glories have lasted long,

11. That for the sons of uncles are nourished with
Turbid waters, while others are given pure and fresh.

12. By Allah, I do not know, though I am truthful,
Blindness, or do I see pretense from my people?

13. They have shed poisonous spittle and released
With their hands snakes beneath garments.

14. They have advanced loss over profit
And delayed the glorious from ancient times and anew.

15. Indeed lost is he who seeks a guide from the blind
And humiliated is he who hopes for a shepherd from a goat.

16. And he who takes the sword will find its deception
To be bullets, while the bandits’ sword is swift.

17. And he who makes the leopard his hunting dog
Will see the ravagers of night a pouncing lion.

18. My dear friend, injustice has befallen me, and I see
No deliverer for it but freeing the slave girls.

19. I blamed my people so they would have mercy, but I did not find
Among my people protectors suiting the eras.

20. And my orbit among the vile lasted long, though
Folly it is for the likes of me to be orbiting.

21. How so when I possess an Abdalaite determination
With which I fell the Yemeni sword's edge?

22. And in me over the lifetime's expanse is Khunzuwana,
Even if the events exhaust my state and money.

23. So do not reckon the viperous scoundrels think I
Have surrendered or obeyed the bending.

24. For if the minds of my people go astray, their minds
Will obey in the friend the enemy;

25. And they will bring near those of self-interests among them and distance
For a matter their relatives and loyalists;

26. And they will give the reins of authority to every
Fool whom neither foreigner nor family approves;

27. And their minds tired of he who hoped in them
And sought their harm he who sought them.

28. So for me is ample space from their abode, where I do not see
The daughters of Kudad scorning the qualities.

29. I am not the son of glory's mother if I do not take
A stance that shows theLOWmy place.

30. I will mount it, either for honor and comfort
To benefit them, or my pigeons will wrest me away.

31. He who advises me frightens me of incapacity and humiliation
In traversing the horizons and tumultuous seas,

32. So I said: "Isn't death - if I do not face it -
Its horses have come at me from behind?"

33. And what is the excuse of the incapable while all
Are followers, prey, and past eras?

34. Does the denier of injustice who did not die, die,
While a cooing dove still resides in the abode?

35. And whoever does not part from the abode of injustice remains
Going and returning, agonized of heart, crying.

36. And whoever settles in the abode of humiliation lives in it
A brother of torment who does not stop time complaining.

37. And whoever does not fulfill half in his people's abode
And meets harm is better to not meet.

38. And whoever seeks honor through afflictions and a state
Is like one who spends the night erect on water.

39. May my right hand be gone if I stay in disgrace -
Yes, and then my left will follow closely.

40. And may my mouth be split if I do not utter strangenesses
That rip apart illusions and show the unknown.

41. Their hearing is difficult for the vile people,
And through it appears some of what was hidden.

42. For if my people muzzled my tongue in their land,
Then it is not rational when I am distanced.

43. I will send from it wanderers with insights
That alert the rational and make the heedful understand.

44. And had my people been just with me, they would have released
My hand and tongue among them and meters.

45. For, by Allah in the oath of a truthful one,
Had it not been for them, I would not be

46. A taper for them and a sayer.
But the fools know that I envy

47. When the whales rise high.
And I am one of zeal toward the eminent

48. Baring my sword and tongue for them.
And I disdain the claim of the lowly to be

49. Building loftiness - oh its loftiness!
I have not disliked - when its affairs went straight -

50. The misery of the glorious distancing my abode
For it suspected I am a resentment upon it -

51. Was I Iraqi in passion or Shami?
So if Lukayz and Aamir's sons forfeit my right

52. And deny my efforts for it and my toil,
They had forfeited before me Rebab and her sons,

53. And I did not know the equal to the son of Afssa.
It is nothing but an ignorant tradition

54. That an old man from the people inherits unknowingly.

55. Who always avoided the people from them?

Oh, my people, does not Ali ibn Abdala

57. Advise sincerely the heedless comforter?
Has not the time come for vigilance and awareness among you,

58. To please an angry brother and anger one content?
With it each person stands in his position,

59. And in lapses they permit compensation.
But if you do not accept it as advice,

60. I will not be among what you love, suitable.
For how many an adviser among people is seen as a traitor,
