1. The embers stirred dormant passion in me
The pangs of yearning set ambers ablaze in my chest

2. So my tears flowed like gems for a people
I'll never forget even if patience kills me

3. Whenever the thought of them crosses my mind
My burning agony grows ever more severe

4. So ask me what torments my heart
The lord of the abode knows best what lies within

5. O book that came when I was sick
And cured me of my malady and mended me

6. Your scripts reminded me of the palm of a sea
Each finger extending to form a river

7. A doe, when the nights would call it
Swifter than a sword and faster flowing

8. And pride - when weighed against
The stars of the sky - grows ever prouder

9. And knowledge - when doubt creeps up one day
Becomes the dawn for quandaries and daybreak

10. And order - when my thoughts were adrift
In its wondrous meanings I swam an ocean

11. And whenever we perceived knots
And gleaned pearly wisdoms from the pages

12. The flowers boast of it and its fragrance
From my beloved's epistles wafts its aroma

13. When recited it is like honey
When smelled it is utmost fragrance

14. In lines on parchment it shone
Melting prostrate in devotion and penance

15. Each word that hearing deems a pearl
Conceals a meaning that minds deem sorcery

16. O intimate of my heart return the draft of poetry
Each time I taste its cup I turn verdant

17. And if the ship of patience sets sail
Arise, break the ship with utmost vehemence

18. And with love's sword slay the lad
Who sees no excuse in lovers' fervor

19. And for passion raise a rampart wall
Each time it's fired upon, it surges higher

20. O unequaled in eloquence, O eye of merit
Whose meanings make its waters wine

21. O generous carpenter, O branch of loftiness
He is foremost in grace and virtues

22. My life - who equals his lineage?
My foe - who competes with him in nobility?

23. His forbearance anchored every sphere
His generosity made them stable and stationary

24. And a sky of knowledge illuminated
Its sun dimmed the stars and the moon

25. You adorned me with a necklace of pearls
Surpassing necklaces in its wondrous arrangement

26. Boons I cannot bear standing
Nay, nor can life repay you, O peer of knowledge

27. So may God reward you the best reward
And grant you might and triumph from Him

28. Never did we see the epistles of longing
Reveal rhyming praises, even or uneven lines

29. For your knowledge remains a treasure trove
And a refuge for whom your abode welcomes
