1. Between the ruins of al-Naqa and its sands
A full moon has set in my heart at its peak

2. I did not come seeking union with his eyelids
Except his image preoccupies my onlooker

3. A gazelle, when the longing one looked at its face
Shot his heart with a glance and its arrows

4. I kissed his forehead when he uncovered his veil
I saw a full moon shining from his wrap

5. The stars crave to be his necklaces
And their crescent moons his sandal straps

6. His glances have slain many a lover
Who met their death by the glance of a gazelle

7. A king whose soldiers are hearts of kings
Beauty and benevolence are his deeds

8. Misfortune schemes when it sees him coming
While fortune and success come from his arrival

9. The leaning branches craved his stature
Breaking with passion at the beauty of his bearing

10. Quenched from the waters of youth, for he is
A branch sprinkled by the morning dew in its freshness

11. A drink to days gone by, as if they
Appeared as ghosts in minds with their dreams

12. When night embraced the beloved one evening
And I attained union beyond all people

13. I woke to his radiance and his beauty
Illuminated by his light and grace

14. I held him with my right hand, and since he saw
The sincerity of love, he embraced me with his left

15. I was astounded by my joy in him, as if
I saw Ahmed bestowing gifts at his reception

16. Al-Alma'i, the unique, extracted from
The century of perfection by his perfection

17. He mastered the sciences—if he shook hands
With a mountain, the land would shake from his grip

18. He rides his father's steed with his father's manners
And brightens their state with his shining sword

19. Noble, were it not for his cool calm,
I'd fear his robe would be shaken

20. Deliberate, not deviating from his wisdom
Active, not like an ignorant fool

21. Turning his gifts to visitors
So the needy attain before asking

22. Prepared for favors, so if someday
He stirs them with his good deeds

23. Fortune's generosity, beauty and dignity
Are in his palm, beauty and majesty

24. The discernment in his mind sees success
The scent of triumph comes from his arrival

The vanguards of his glory emerged from his glory

26. And the regiments of his triumph appeared from his state
With ambition that tramples hearts under its shoes

27. So calamities see ruin under his shoes

28. He overlooks vulgarity—his glory is far above
He accepts when the foolish babble idly

29. Alas Ramadan, you have left him
Why didn't you stay with him like some of his family?

30. Why didn't you mention his fasting, his prayers,
His donations from his money?

31. Reciting the Quran the whole day
Standing for God the whole night

32. His food pure and lawful, not able
To discern the unlawful from the lawful

33. He answered me: "What can I do, for I am
A man who would sacrifice himself and his men for him

34. To him belongs eternity, and I will repay him
With goodness, joined by the rope of union"

35. Or don't you know Ahmad is the master
Of his Ramadan, who feared its departure?

36. O son of the honorable Ghatarfa family, the least man
Whose fortune and state were ruined by time

37. I gift you an inscribed increase
That came to your home seeking its shade

38. It came despite the scheming of enviers
And spit on their beards and their mustaches

39. So congratulate this holiday, may you stay in grace
And may your ropes, my master, join to its ropes

40. This month has shed from you a new crescent
In its face, so it formed with its crescent
