1. Upon the sweet-voiced birds bereft of companions
She sang, and sang to make up for hundreds or thousands

2. Yearning called her to lament, so she bent
Echoing melodies that transcend all description

3. She reminded me, though we'd just yesterday left
A sacred, fragrant garden

4. Its dwellings had built in my heart residence
Taking the place of lute and flute

5. By God, I'll ne'er forget those nights that passed
With her, while the eyes of time looked upon in disdain

6. Dwellings of Samarra that wandered in its grace
As though it were a soft, protective wristband

7. In it al-‘Askari, the pure and handsome ar-Rida
And rain of the land, the fountain from the world of kindness

8. And our master al-Hādi ‘Ali, brother of the most high
And lord of glories when he stood at the noble station

9. And authority of the lords of glories, Muhammad
And leader of guidance, the Mahdi in clarity and eloquence

10. Imams of virtue who adorned knowledge with piety
And knew nothing among their followers but kindness

11. In rank after the Messenger of God, one of them
Suffices before God over thousands

12. A carpenter through whom existence was purified, so if
You seek explanation, look - did he come with attributes?

13. And in Sūrat al-Ahzāb, if you're a reciter
Be virtuous and leave the words of the envious denier

14. Creation's flowers bloomed for him, and the sun
Nearly tilted toward him unto its demise

15. Their father the greatest of messengers, and their mother
The greatest of all women, without compare

16. And their father the sea of knowledge, who has
Praiseworthy feats in Islam, flawless in description

17. Noble pillars of the Prophetic Household
Their status among all people like the nose

18. They are my refuge in tribulations and my supply
And destination - always - and they suffice for me

19. I gained honor in them when I kissed their tombs
And lined my eyes with the dust of their burial grounds

20. And dwelled near them until I saw dwelling near them
More beloved to my heart than living with thousands

21. Noble ones, we stayed amidst their homes
So their towns and provision were ready at hand

22. I then saw with my eyes the light of true guidance
And it did not harm me though the onlookers were in contempt

23. Far be it that I would be pleased with that, though I have
Rights of dwelling each day manifold

24. So through them I hope for intercession on the Day of Meeting
Through which I will attain God's mercy and subtle kindness

25. O Humaylimah, descendant of the house of Mustafā and youth of al-Tufūl, Muhammad - that is why I have returned to them and been of that kind. Their right cannot be dissolved from my passion for them, and I have turned away from the crooked, muddled people.
They have a high lineage and magnificent glory, and knowledge and wisdom, so say to the enemies: shame! They have surely inherited the secret truth from al-Mustafā, not from dishonest or confused men.

26. The prayers of God be upon him as long as the morning warbler sings upon the sweet-voiced birds bereft of companions.
