1. The breezes of truth blew from the holy side,
So the doves of hearts flew out of captivity.

2. The fragrance of connection wafted from that fever,
In the morning, though we had sensed it last night.

3. The caller of Mount Sinai called to Moses, his confidant:
“Take off your shoes, you are on holy ground.”

4. Brides of mystic knowledge, pay their dowries,
Which is nothing but removing your attributes and ego.

5. Beware of hidden polytheism, for it
Is a veil over individuals from the oneness of being.

6. Leave aside the duality of “I” and “He”, for the Essence is One,
Turn to it with insight and senses.

7. Dissolve the illusion of separation, for union is the abode
Of the passionate ones drinking from the cup.

8. So there is only the One whose generosity
Poured upon every particle of existence, without doubt.

9. Purify yourself with the water of the unseen, and wash
From the heart the duality of “I” or any impurity.

10. And if you are veiled from the meeting, do tayammum
With proofs and lessons as pure soil.

11. Pray the prayer of the gnostics, for it
Is for your spirit an ascension to the Throne.

12. Fast from its secret and seclude yourself during its months,
And pilgrimage to it, leaving behind jinn and humans.

13. Purify your deeds that you did
To reap the fruits of planting the tree.

14. Walk the way of the people and choose as teacher
The excellent tradition and the gentle method.

15. Hold to the path of Sacred Law as long as it
Is your life in this world and your light in the burial.

16. Beware of the ravings of the ignorant one saying
“I am God”, Glory to God, Lord of the Throne!

17. There is no success but in following Muhammad,
The noble guide of Arabs and non-Arabs.

18. Hold fast to him and make loving him your motto,
Taking his traces from you by the handfuls.

19. Follow the path of al-‘Aydarus, for he
Is the sun, so beware of his blindness that erases.

20. The travelers to truth are illuminated by him
As people are illuminated at sunrise.

21. His miracles are like the stars and his virtue
Is immense for the people of insight and senses.

22. His attributes point you to explaining his state
Though his name was written at the start of history.

23. Be straight in following his path
And beware the deceits of misguidance and inversion.

24. Leave those impressed by saints, those pretending,
For how far is the yellow of the eye from the yellow of mimosa?

25. How many pretenders have prowled at the door,
To end up bound by nature and the ego!

26. Be helped by prayers upon the one who certainly
Ascends to the Holy Presence.

27. Blessings of God be guided to his grave
As long as buildings stand on foundations.

28. And upon his companions, family, and followers—
Follow in their tracks, taking and teaching.

29. And the rest of the righteous shaykhs and those who strove
Toward truth, not inclined to guesswork or conjecture.

30. And single out al-‘Aydarus from them
For Your great mercy, in the morning or evening.
