1. What ails your heart that wanders and returns
Your passion wanes at times and grows

2. You yearn like one bereaved when love is recalled
The darkness of your heart by separation set aflame

3. I see your tears flow like heavy rains
That forever melt the ice of aloofness

4. I see you in the garb of sickness as though
The chill of passion has descended upon you

5. I see you drunk with love, infatuated
Lost in playfulness while your reason astray

6. Passionately indulging the coquetry of damsels
Regardless of their broken vows and promises

7. Many are your stops and hours among them
While the eyes of gossipers bear witness

8. Does passion bind you with an oath
Or are there contracts with passion in your reins

9. Leave off folly, I counsel you in good faith
And heal a body that complaining did emaciate

10. Make your excuse to Abdullah, if you have
For the noble man will surely make amends

11. My lord, when you meet him and behold him
You will know his likeness cannot be duplicated

12. A king of the masters of perfection, for they all
Are slaves of the offspring of the honorable elite

13. He is pride of this age, a jewel in its crown
Its pillar and banner unfurled

14. An ocean, that if the lowly came to his door
His tides would overflow and multiply

15. He is of the pinnacle of glory and honor
Attained by his forefathers and ancestors

16. So upon you, Abdullah, the best greeting
Continuous, never waning or dissipating

17. How excellent and pleasing to the ear are its phrases
These lines like glistening pearls threaded together

18. I have not done justice in praising you, though I
Am remiss with preoccupied thoughts astray

19. And we reproach you, so make your defense
And judge justly, for you are lord and lauded

20. What harm if I praise a generous man
When praise of him reflects back on you?

21. Will you begrudge exchanging gems with others
Indignant at us when the place is far?

22. Will the son of nobles abandon, unjustly
One who is lauded among the commoners?

23. Far be it from you to slight me
When the rope binding me to you is taut

24. Upon you from me a greeting of peace
As long as branch and wood are intact

25. Forever, and congratulations of good tidings
On the removal of one envious and mean

26. Your Lord has foiled his plot against him
So praise your God for He is praiseworthy
