1. Tell me of the agony of the day we parted
What patience can the longing lover have?

2. My heart has become depressed
And my tears flow constantly

3. Passion has wounded me, and my cheek
Has become hollow from much weeping

4. He who was clearly manifest is now hidden
Like the Kaaba of beauty, the seduction of lovers

5. She bid me farewell, and my eyes never saw
One like her, riding the peak of glory

6. I grew weary when she bade farewell
And my heart was aflame, my tears pouring

7. May God not bless the day when love bade me farewell
And may God protect the day we reunite

8. How many spirited steeds felled
Amidst glory and the calamities of war

9. O clouds, water the abode
She dwelt in with pouring rain

10. Water it, water it, so long has it been watered
By the outpouring of a yearning, lovesick one

11. O my friend, leave me be, living is naught
But to wander through the horizons

12. At times I head for Syria, at others
Toward Baghdad in the land of Iraq

13. Seeking virtue in the assembly of nobles
And the watering places of friends after friends

14. With the hatred of enemies and wrath of glories
In the mornings of those who drank it and took it by force

15. For the envious, the whip of torment
And for those with intentions, one of kindness

16. When calamity surfaces amongst people
Necks crane toward him

17. With overflowing gifts for the people
And by no means meager gifts

18. Visit him, safe from all evil
And eternally secure from tyranny's onslaught

19. Gentle, refined, wise of heart
Loyal to his oath and covenant

20. He spent his money gathered with nobles
And so the gathering was parted

21. None can equal the Imam Al-Hafiz
In all corners of earth and horizons

22. He who claims the full moon is his equal
Is impossible in his comparison, by consensus

23. The light of this face grows ever brighter
While the moon itself has submitted to eclipse

24. O Imam Al-Hafiz, emancipator
Noble of character and lineage

25. You have been so generous, you have collared
The neck of generosity, not the strangling collar

26. You have become enamored of glory
And I see few who so love it

27. People have shut their doors
While yours, by God, is the marketplace of people

28. You are one of us, O scholar, in the position
Of loving hearts and piercing gazes

29. When you became frail, the earth grew straitened
As if we were bound in shackles

30. By God, he who is not saddened by your weakness
Has no humanity

31. So spare us, O our secret, and plead
To the Lord of all Creation

32. May God protect you from all misfortunes
In the long nights, not to mention from want

33. Endure and live safely in glory eternally
With the clouds raining upon you as before
