1. They have meadows in al-Aqeeq left behind,
While the hearts of lovers are ruins.

2. Abodes where the days of youth shall not return to me,
Nor after separation, however harsh.

3. My eyes have lost sleep longing for them,
Shall I ever see my beloved again?

4. I stayed up watching the stars as if
I were their guard or chatting companion.

5. And in the pink rose petals, a sorcerer,
And the bane of lovers is none but sorcerers.

6. An aloofness that ensnares the heart when it's aloof,
How strange is the hunter yet itself aloof!

7. A vision of beauty beyond any description,
Its perfection has made all other views obsolete.

8. His piercing glance did break the lions in their dens,
Thus all the broken-hearted are heart-breakers.

9. He shunned me, and the specter of him haunts my eyes,
Though it was a specter that sometimes visited my abode.

10. My night grew long after his abandonment,
Oh people, does the night of love's separation have an end?

11. We rode on an easy ride to Dhummar,
Crossing the sands in steady pace.

12. I tore through the robe of darkness adventurously,
For goals are not met except through adventure.

13. I hastened it at dawn urgently,
To the noble one whom the brave hasten to.

14. To the master, the scholar, the imam who
Now favors us with his grace and is early to rise.

15. The one of great generosity, if his merits are counted,
They multiply, more than the sands can vie.

16. Pious, pure, of honorable manner,
The light of faith apparent on his face.

17. Does not hasten to evil and lewdness,
But hastens only to gain divine reward.

18. The first part of this abode is known for piety,
And for faith, above all homes, the latter part.

19. He smiles at the destitute generously,
As lightning comes with pouring clouds.

20. He is the sea who gives to those who appeal to him
Jewels that bring about more jewels.

21. He is the dawn, except that it is banished by darkness,
While he shines even in the gloom of night.

22. He is a sword, but from every side in him
There is for the wicked, a cutting edge to repress.

23. His opinions have become like stars floating
Among the speeches of the ignorant, shining bright.

24. I have been protected from the evils of this age
By one who prohibits and commands in it virtuously.

25. His glory, though with him it resides,
His wealth, though, travels about.

26. He destroys enemies with a sea of friendship, taught guidance,
Do you blame me, or is it love's confused commands?

27. The year has come that we share your company, laughing,
Its auspicious birds tweeting good fortunes.

28. So live like him, honored and esteemed,
While your frowning enemies' faces darken.
