1. They scattered pearls from the pavilions upon him,
Jewels slipped down from the string of pearls.

2. They raised the veils from faces
behind which the full moon hides in the darkness.

3. They became unveiled, though I wished
for the completeness of their veiling.

4. They bared their weapons for no battle
and said "Peace and safety!"

5. Then came a kiss confirming with a sip,
And an embrace confirming with a bond.

6. And a mouth from which I never missed the cup
passed to me the honeyed wine.

7. How could I be blamed when made to fall
on two feet of "if" and "but"?

8. My beloved's eyelid is sharper to me
than the blade of a keen sword.

9. It rages at the healthy with its two edges
and moans when it asks for the sick.

10. So the remnants bear witness for us with spears
whose points exceed all other points.

11. And a love from Kananah's quiver has struck me
with what Kananah's quiver contained in arrows.

12. When their young came of age, their father not decayed,
they brought you every archer and arch.

13. They stayed in the valley so we stayed in turn,
vying in encampments and in lofty abodes.

14. Each had between its wings a heart
whose throbbing was like the dove's wings.

15. And beneath my hand, when pressed to my chest,
were buds beyond the power of my words.

16. Their light was dimmed in my possession,
though the lamps of al-Khuzama burned nearby.

17. Do not divulge affection without moaning—
my riding beast is thirty young men.

18. Worries meet him, but he meets them
with a heart like his burden-bearer's determination.

19. My father sought food while starving
and avoided drink while thirsty.

20. The shepherd's flute does not cheer him,
nor does the rose's blossom give him to drink.

21. Yet here he is, wandering above the darkness of night,
as though its stars and the night's darkness were astray.

22. He tries to split through the thick darkness
to the two full moons with the cloak of darkness.

23. So the kings of the Zuraic see
the callers to the imamate before them.

24. They count generous men as fathers and ancestors
when the time is barren of generous men.

25. Crowned with diadems, the children of Hud
or else the swords of the orphans of Yami.

26. They protected and elevated, though no protector or elevated one
but them among the children of Ham and Shem.

27. A people adorned themselves with their name through kingship,
though they have nothing but their names.

28. And they counted it partnership, but the partnership
of the divider is only for the broker.

29. In the lowlands of the Shimal Valley
and the most worthless wadi of Wahadah,

30. And Muhammad among all who blame,
then count Abu al-Saud among all the fortunate,

31. and Muhammad among all who blame.
And accomplish victory for Abu al-Mansur

32. over the inspired army with one blow.
For three vanguards have emerged

33. against the enemies, ensuring their defeat.
What mountain top reached by the sedentary

34. and crowned by the stagnant is made legitimate?
A porch spread in Yemen so it overlooks

35. Iraq and Syria.
Yasir protected it by striking and stabbing,

36. and the glory of the protector is the glory of the protected.
He repelled each cowardly heart

37. and quenched each lofty soul's thirst.
He tamed the wild beasts of time

38. until they flowed obedient to the reins in his hands.
He publicized his deeds in every living quarter;

39. for too long their disputes had festered.
When Hutham spoke, believe her!

40. For Hutham did not speak what she said.
So lower the creaking of her litter

41. for she has heard the clanking of the armor.
With donkeys, excuses are recited,

42. and none but the best are spared blame.
May God protect you through an auspicious rule

43. to which Shimal turns with its wing spans!
I laid down hopes such that my soul said:

44. "My ruin in the night of calamity lies in wait for me."
I rode to you on the wings of ostriches

45. upon the likes of ostrich wings.
I have stayed put, achieving nothing through others,

46. unable to obtain a station.
So I become, through fasting without reward,

47. among those who fast and those who pray.
Pride upon you, O Banu Imran's glory!

48. Pride upon the kingdoms of Shem and Ham!
Your time through you is favorable, O soothing scents

49. whose seal is broken!
The year passes through it in the course of a day,

50. and the day completes in it a whole year.
The progeny of intellects who extracted it as wine,

51. so it crept among the bones.
It does not cease to elevate pleasures for you

52. in diffusion and organization.
From permitted wine for its drinkers,

53. though having the traits of forbidden wine
Among a people who, if a specter were a guest,

54. would not blacken their eyelids with sleep.
I have muddled their minds with my shattering,

55. so my arm grew calloused from wielding ideas.
And the obscure may be illuminated
