1. They blame those who listen
To the words of one who reproved them.

2. I am a devil of love,
Unruly in affection.

3. My reproof strikes
With cold iron.

4. No ascetic turns me back,
No penitent makes me retreat.

5. God created man
And created his actions.

6. From reproof that hears not,
From reproof that understands not.

7. My poor reproof
Is ignorant in affection.

8. He thinks in his mind
That I act on his words.

9. But I do not act
On what goes on in his mind.

10. I do love that he who
Loves not should love.

11. The camel is beautiful in silence,
The donkey is beautiful speaking.

12. By God I speak truth.
Indeed I have spoken truth.

13. And many before me
Have spoken like my words.
