1. Though his beard grew redder
From the pallor that spread over his face,
١. لئن زاد في ذَقْنه حُمرةً
بما زادَ في الوجهِ من صفرتِهْ
2. For the many blows on his head
His blood flowed clearer in his beard.
٢. فمن كثرةِ الصفْعِ في رأسِهِ
تصفّى له الدمُ في لحيتِهْ
