1. I have become a slave in the hands of an owner
My wages were for what was upon the slave
١. أصبحْتُ عبداً في يدَيْ مالكٍ
أجْوَرُ ما كان على العبْدِ
2. With me is what was not with him
And with him what was not with me
٢. عندي له ما لم يكُنْ عندَه
وعنده ما لم يكُنْ عندي
3. He blamed my lack of generosity rightfully
Arranged on my cheek
٣. عابَ عَذولي جُدَريّاً بدا
منتظماً منه على الخدِّ
4. So I said how nice is the dew
Scattered on rose petals
٤. فقلتُ ما أحسنَ قطْرَ النّدى
منتثراً في ورقِ الورْدِ
