1. You came alone, unseen by others' eyes,
Yet filled with joy the gazers with surprise,

2. For Alexandria you set out with purpose,
To raise it in Egypt above other climes,

3. With you I travelled in praise and wonder,
Roaming seen as stars traverse the skies,

4. O peak of excellence you shunned false boasts,
Judged by the grey of hair and counsel wise,

5. Time frowned though I came to you repentant,
My journeys now but journeys of goodbyes,

6. Yet I'm like a garden 'midst its ways,
Where riding clouds bring down the rains and cries,

7. Towards you I came asking and hopeful,
To find in homelands only homelands' guise,

8. Of a neighbor I complain who spited me,
And passed as neighbors do before my eyes,

9. Send to him your horses of high command,
Perhaps they will return him from his lies.
