1. O brother, leave idleness and turn away from it
Its consequences are misery

2. A man's beauty in life is righteousness
And the best merchandise of the free man is modesty

3. I wonder at him who inclines towards sins
And is amused by frivolities and singing

4. The outcome of both, if he only knew, is misery
Prolonged, and after it more hardship

5. Wake up, o sleepy one, for you don't know
What has been ordained by fate beforehand

6. And entrust your matter to God, for He
Does whatever He wills with all creatures

7. And take refuge in the Protected Book
For in it are all merit and loyalty

8. A leader whom everyone on earth is beneath
When tested, and his ambition is the sky

9. He has such glories and excellences
That to that banner is equally lofty

10. May my Lord prolong his existence and honour
Whenever the dawn turns into evening
