1. The day of parting, the camel turned away,
And patience parted with it, clearly displayed.

2. When at dawn it strode freely onwards,
Separation made manifest what was ordained.

3. By my life! Though the slanderers depart,
They left me love and disgrace.

4. When we embraced, pearls wept,
And from my eyelids rained abundant tears.

5. May God pardon those I humbled, so I was honored,
I reconciled, so I was spurned, I was faithful, so I was betrayed.

6. The pastures of the beloved's abode
Were clouded over, turning verdant meadows barren.

7. An abode where I cut the ropes of worries,
And tethered the gracious gazelles.

8. Many a desolate place I made habitable for it,
Where at night the darkness cast down its luggage.

9. But that did not hinder my resolve,
Nor did that frighten my heart.

10. And I said to the howdah of departure
Breaking its litters, and the departing throngs:

11. Restrain your moaning, Oh maiden,
For no ordeal is difficult once faced!

12. Exert yourself unto him to whom the camel
Goes willingly at evening and dutifully at morn,

13. The keeper of faith and hoped for
To repel adversity when it strikes.

14. I know that if I come to him
I will take safety from events.

15. And if matters grow dark, his greatness
Will clarify the aspects of their shapes.

16. If I come to him seeking benefit, he benefits;
If seeking help, he helps.

17. He will be among the noblest lords,
Greatest in dignity, highest in station,

18. Clearest among the exalted in method,
Most eloquent in wise speech,

19. Most generous of the liberal with bounty,
And fullest of glorious repute.

20. So, O carrier of generosity from Hatim,
Relate this to those who witness!

21. Congratulations shown and seen
That kissed your palm fronds!

22. And take these poems that adorned
The age with mention of your traits.

23. Gardens - if their breeze blew
On brittle rock, it would be softened!
