1. O my heart, soar from the depths of my being
Toward the magnificent Beloved in fine attire

2. Visit His dwellings where the spring of His love flows
And you will find life in those settlements

3. Flap your wings toward His sublimity and do not weary
You will be clothed in tribulations on the path to equality

4. For His beauty is the essence of beauty, indeed
From His grace, the son of wisdom was created

5. O you who long for ease, taste and behold
How sweet is the Lord to a bewildered heart

6. Whoever has tasted the wine of His love, blessed is he
For felicity was made sweet for him with delight

7. For his heart won joys, soaring,
Indeed, he gained the noblest chastity with adornment

8. O my heart, drink from His springs, for you
Will find repose if you are tempted by the Noble White One

9. O people of the garden, my loved ones, how long
Will I spend my evenings sorrowful, lamenting you?

10. With you is a thought that brings me joy with your glance
And with me is a remembrance of you amidst weeping

11. If not for my wandering thought in your abode
I would be unique in my misery and confusion

12. Watering a withered willow in your company
He is the Wealthy, the Master, the Joy

13. If only I could be with you, so my severe thirst
Would be quenched by your sweet springs

14. I will submit to the homes of my loved ones
Where the objects of my desire and loves reside

15. O you visiting that station, stay
At its ruins and explain my passions through them

16. Spread the lights of love from a heart
That held an immense, burning ardor within its depths

17. Rather, offer my mind with my thought
My insight and will and aims

18. Toward the gentle, powerful, beloved Lord
For He is the Mighty, the Ruler, the Powerful

19. The heart of Jesus, my ultimate joy
Or purpose, or wish, or delight

20. O heart of my Lord, you are the goal of my hopes
My Lord’s heart, you are the treasure of my contentment

21. O sea of divine generosity that
Enriched the world with boundless giving

22. From Your abundant grace, our salvation overflowed
Thus the enemies were amazed at the excess of kindness

23. And the exquisite delights coursed through us, so
Passion was sweetened by Your splendid flashes

24. With Your magnificent essence, You brought into existence, what splendor
Of generosity, transcending thoughts!

25. O throne of the wisdom of the Creator of the cosmos, whose
Sublimity confounded the wisdom of the wise

26. By Your understanding the angels won the proofs
And by Your discernment the bearers of news were judged

27. Since You were the school of minds and taught them
Woe to the mind that is absent from Your sciences

28. Our minds and hearts aspire to You
And every ardent one finds bliss in You

29. For they are iron and You are their magnet
Rather, You are a sun and they are like motes

30. Since You were their beauty and perfection
And their bliss that banishes all misery

31. Quench my thirst, O source of sweetness and joy
Sedative of the transcendent, joyful God

32. For if a drop from Your sweetness entered Hell
It would transform into the bliss of heaven

33. This while I was tormented for a sin
With sorrow's shackles chafing my innards

34. Lamenting and ardently yearning, shedding
Tears of sorrow copiously like sap

35. Why then should I not set my mind ablaze with Your love
And see my blood spilled in my love for You?

36. O You gentle, content Lamb, the Chosen One
And sacrifice of forgiveness and satisfaction

37. O You lush pasture, the sought-after goal
And the shepherd described with benevolence

38. O You brilliant groom, the coveted one
Who captures hearts and passions

39. In Your beauty, rather, dazzling in brilliance
A cluster of camphor, a prairie flower

40. An apple in a lovely bough
Behold, my love, white with blond hair

41. I chose him from among the kings
Golden, with teeth like

42. Two doves upon streams of water
His legs, two columns of marble, his torso

43. Ivory studded with precious rubies
As for his hands, brocade, and his lips

44. Of lilies, and his throat like halvah
My splendid beloved, all of him is desirable

45. So I spurn my kinsmen for his love
By the daughters of Jerusalem, if my love passed

46. They would line up to plead my case
Love has weakened me, for it is to me

47. A death sweeter than life's misery
My companion, you are the epitome of beauty

48. But your beauty is from my brilliance
Like the moon, it does not contain beauty itself

49. Except what it gains from the light of my glow
So if you are dependent, I make you beautiful

50. Or else you become like a gloomy night
Come to me, O bride from the cedars

51. Of Lebanon, so you may gain the glory of my brilliance
O bride, here, you have wounded my eye

52. Indeed, you have troubled my blood
Place me as a ring on your dark heart

53. So I may be quenched, rather, so I may excel by my thirst
For my love is as strong as death, rather

54. Like the fire of hell, too great to extinguish
Beyond it I endured every hardship

55. Even the crucifixion, so do not fail my loyalty
What can you grant me but to ignite

56. A love for me beyond death?
If you do not reciprocate such equal love

57. You will never fully accomplish fidelity
If you fall short in this, then exert yourself

58. With the flowers of my garden and memories of my tokens
And seek warmth from my inflamed heart

59. That is charged with every understanding
Truly, you will find bliss through that passion

60. Rather, love itself will suffice with hope
It is I, the divine heart, for whom

61. The angels bow down in worship before me
Whoever desires success, let him come, my brother

62. Fortunate is he who comes under my banner
And let him wear the robe I clothed

63. My bride, my brother, with my garments
And let him become renowned by worshiping me, adhering

64. To my law, ordained by me
My brother, a garden of delightful blossoms

65. Containing the aromas of righteousness and piety
So I will descend to the orchards that contained

66. Basins of scent, truly in them is my joy
That I may contain my myrrh, and I will show and be nourished

67. Rather, I will drink my wine and fresh milk
O brothers and loved ones, so sip

68. From my wine, then become drunk by my air
That you may spread, my brother, for it

69. Is my glory, and in it I contain my bounties
Hasten, O Lord of hearts, enrapture me

70. For your brilliant beauty melted my strength
Does my misery lead to such blindness

71. That I refuse the light like the gloom?
Disdainful that I would be Your brother -

72. Would that my extinction had preceded this and my demise
My bliss and glory are to love You, O beloved

73. Of my heart, and to passionately adore my misery for Your love
But how can I not ignite my being with Your love to extinction

74. And see my blood spilled in my ardent love for You?
O heart of my Lord, take my strength and enflame me

75. With the coals of Your love so I may gain delight
O heart of my Lord, take my passion - for I have not desired

76. A love that does not require You before me
Lord of Generosity, to You I complain of my humiliation

77. You are the Savior and sea of all consolation
O sun of righteousness, no setting

78. Can mar You, shine Your radiance on my gloomy darkness
When Your magnificent, brilliant majesty was revealed

79. It illuminated minds with the best illumination
Grant salvation to all who depend on it

80. And eliminate the shadow of gloomy darkness
Mirror of the Father's person, image of His glory

81. And dwelling of the Holy Spirit of grace
O Giver of blessings, rather, O Giver of blessings,

82. Rather, O Giver of blessings!
O temple of divinity, rather, O garden of the kingdom,

83. Rather, O felicity of the blissful!
So let us praise Your sublimity with the people of the high realm

84. However, Your praise surpasses all praise
We will glorify Your reverence, O path of guidance

85. And model of the righteous and benign
And we will laud Your brilliance, O Lord of

86. Radiance, then satisfaction and transcendent humility
We will extol Your qualities, O bread of our joy

87. Staple of the hungry and strength of the weak
We will exalt Your generosity, O ample rain

88. Who pardoned sinners and raised the debased
And prostrate before You, O Lord of all

89. That is in the sky and atop all wealth
Thus I am smitten in Your attributes, enraptured

90. But Your attributes, my Lord, surpass my effort
So I came to You with many faults, weary

91. Consuming evil and all harm
Seeking victory, seeking rain, seeking forgiveness

92. From Your pardoning forbearance, the returning transgressor
Interceding through her who has the distinction

93. Of never failing to help the poor
Mary, the virgin through whom came

94. Salvation - she is the refuge and triumph of the grieved
I equated the heart of the virgin with her son's heart

95. Among the heavens like a cave and sanctuary
While my woeful, pining heart longed

96. And there is no cure but the joy of their meeting
Far be it from a heart plunged in darkness, seeking rain

97. To be denied like a hardened heart
Rather, may it obtain favor generously, soaring

98. From the generous heart of the magnificent Beloved
O heart of my Lord, You are the utmost goal of my purpose
