1. A soul that has become disobedient,
The easiest of it is the end, and the beginning is oppressive,

2. I saw it constantly killing,
Killed, and hypocrisy kills it,

3. I refused in front of the fang of ruin,
And its claws, and destruction encompasses it,

4. I sleep while the stingers are in my bed,
My mattress and pillows twitching,

5. How much distress has it become in its folds,
Lost in its confusion, and God abandons it,

6. Its rise pushes away its spear,
Its fall brings its unarmed near,

7. I was confused between disciplining it,
Because it is ignorant of righteousness,

8. It tightens when salvation is near, just as
Its spring of mischief overflows,

9. I contended with it for good but it pulls me
To the abyss of disgrace, its shoulders,

10. If I say, no, you are disobedient,
It loved what its doer would disavow,

11. I blame its pursuit and drink from it,
Its water is Euphrates which I see,

12. Its turbidity, and the clear is perplexing,
The water of virtue diminishes from it, just as

13. The water of mischief overflows from its spring,
I elevate it yet poison is in its water,

14. How strange! And poisons are its spring,
I complain of the soul's woes then thank it,

15. I blame a wise one who came to ask about it,
So strange is one who doubts then thanks it,

16. And a scholar whom its ignorance misguided,
It left me confused in thoughts,

17. It tires me in the easiest matters,
I solve its problems but it perplexes me,

18. Its contradictions and disputes cripple it,
If you come to it while truth is clear,

19. Its obstinacy has faced you with perplexity,
If I raged while the reins were with me,

20. With my Lord's Gospel I came, it perplexed me,
Woe to it since its best

21. Became its ugliest, and the lowliest its superior,
Verily matters became inverted mistakenly,

22. Its opposite to the eye it manifests,
What I loathed it loves,

23. What I hated it accepts,
I accept it doing what I do not see,

24. What used to seperate it now joins it,
It distresses whoever praises it,

25. And elevates whoever blames it,
Do not weary of one who came to support it

26. With his praise, for the opposite disappoints it,
If one said, perfection is its elegance,

27. I replied, hypocrisy nullifies it,
Or one said, death is its ride,

28. I replied, perdition carries it,
Or one said, loyalty governs it,

29. I replied, it constantly neglects it,
Or one said, blindness is in its hand,

30. I replied, misguidance makes it stumble,
Or one said, bliss is its ascent,

31. I replied, hellfire is its descent,
Or one said, prosperity urges it forth,

32. I replied, disgrace halts it,
Or one said, hope is its pillar,

33. I replied, it constantly delays it,
Or one said, affection is its trait,

34. I replied, it transfers it to evil,
Or one said, discord is its allurer,

35. I replied, it constantly bewilders it,
The soul is a demon with its own essence,

36. That backstabs it, and obstinacy kills it,
Trust what I have mentioned to you,

37. Its implication necessitates this,
Nothing pleased me but one who fears God,

38. Who berates it before dawn,
Brandishing patience, striking it,

39. Destroying enemies and disappointing it,
Extending atop the sea of his thoughts,

40. The traps that will completely engulf it,
Hopefully he can catch its ideas,

41. The good and the ugly he rejects,
Saying with humility when wishes arrive,

42. It has no cure if it leads, only shoulders submit,
So reform, O God, its corruption,

43. Pleasing the last as it pleased the first,
And forgive it what wrong it committed,

44. Increasing its distance so it reasons,
You who came to save it,

45. From the abyss of ruin and transfer it,
To a bliss whose arrival,

46. Beautifies it, and beauty makes it beautiful,
Until when it comes to You submitting,

47. Indebted, and the judgement questions it,
It will say, "My Lord, have mercy and delight me,

48. With my repentance," and hope accepts it.
