1. Whether from the radiance of my eyes or from the setting of my tears
You have revived, O repentance, a dead man of no use

2. Now my reliance has passed and sin has met its demise
O you who gloat, maintain the lute string with accord

3. When I raised the clauses of repentance, lowered
Were the flags of my sins, so I was honored with abasement

4. Woe to you, I returned alive when I repented just as
I was dead and my corpse was sold to the claimant

5. The voice of resurrection calls me and I hear it
From the blowing of the horn or from the repentance of religious law

6. I made a vow to my Lord with it and the vow made me
Patient, devout, and sorrowful, with hearing

7. Whenever we stumble, we resent, but Allah raises us up
Our guardian angel, vigilant in refusal and deterrence

8. O fallen one, hear the Master telling us
"I relieve the stumbling of the regretful supplicant"

9. How many dear ones came wanting to sacrifice themselves in sorrow
With the gift of despair after advice with deterrence

10. If only he had intended to seek refuge in Umm al-Lah*
He would not have ended up slain in chest and head

11. O source of repentance, its branch grafted onto you
And the source's way is to care tenderly for the branch

12. Bestow Your generosity upon us, for You are through the ages our intercessor
For in You lies hope in woe and benefit
