1. The Lord Most High descended while exalted
In the mortal form of Adam though the full moon seems lowly

2. And shone from the cradle of shepherds adorned
In a garment wherein his living divinity was perfect

3. For him in the sky a throne for the glory of his divinity
And on earth a throne wherein his body resides

4. Angels obedient to him, O Most Generous
In attendance at his throne while kings pay homage

5. There he holds command obeyed by all creation
While here the obedient flatter him with honor

6. There aloof from our afflictions that
We see here - here condescending to them

7. So wondrous is he whom we saw submissive
Though in his grasp the two firmaments and judgment most just

8. Let him who claims ignorance of his burdens
Be disgraced while the Lord of Honor is like a slave in attendance

9. O moon who has descended upon the slope of our land
Though above the highest heavens descending

10. From Bethlehem rose his light
And needless to say what orbit God placed him in

11. O birth through which came our salvation
And defeat of Satan and sin the slayer

12. The fire of the Magi was quenched by his light
And idols and disbelief fell limp

13. For if his birth brought down their status
No doubt apostles cause tremors among them

14. And messengers of God wreaked havoc on them
As tribulations wreak havoc on nomads

15. May God protect in us a birth that gave guidance
To mankind and reason approves as wise

16. And bless the virgin who invites me to describe her
Secret birth though description falls short

17. O you who go too far praising her limitlessly
When at the limits, even the outreaching fall short

18. A heaven but solely for the One God
A throne above which God is ever-present

19. A sun but she birthed the light of its sun
An east but toward it the dawn inclines

20. She is the full moon in a night of all-enveloping disbelief
Small wonder the night is dimmed by the full moon

21. While Adam earned curse for his disobedience
Mary is greeted by glad tidings

22. She has virtue above all others but
Virtues are attributed to her praised one

23. O you who delve the sea of poetry with verse
Pleases him simple and perfected

24. Gaze in praise of the virgin Mary reciting
Swiftly though the pleasure of verse calls to the reciter
