1. O river called Al-Asgharin
Yet you outranked Al-Asghar

2. Had people been fair altogether
None would name you so on earth

3. Be superior to all rivers
From all corners of villages, and boast

4. For the fine virtue that
People on earth see prideworthy

5. Why do I see the senior slackened
Had they been fair, named you Al-Kawthar

6. O soul of human souls
Of the rich among them and the poor

7. O best of all rivers
Of all countries and the greenest

8. You raised your prices to be bought
With pure silver and jewel

9. To be seen high ascending
Like Kaiwan or Al-Mushtari

10. O master of rivers of our land
Whoever adjoined you never knew poverty

11. And whoever bought what you irrigate
Of palms and land never grieved

12. You are holy than a river or a stream
Successful is he who buys and who sells

13. If the seller loses what he sold
For what it irrigated, the buyer profits

14. As if your water is from a paradise
Al-Firdaws or from its perfume Al-Adhfar

15. Sweet in flavour and taste as
Sweet is the flavour of honey and sugar

16. As if rosewater gets mixed
With your most pure water

17. Without you, our land would be desolate
Barren, no sowing and reaping

18. And we would have in it no settlement
Pleasing to the eye or the informed one

19. And you, o Al-Asgharin
Blessed from a river and from Ja'far

20. I hope as you flow inexhaustibly
You flow without toil or driving

21. As if your water is supplies
Brought without toil from the oceans

22. May Allah revive you with irrigating the living
Cascading from clouds, pouring

23. So the earths become verdant
With its ascending vegetation

24. Some of which green, lush
Some red, red

25. Some yellow, white
Some intense, yellow

26. You never knew scarcity when downpours alighted
And followed settle on the pulpit
