1. My beloved is stingy with union,
Yet generous when distant, beyond reach.

2. A precious one - as though the sun lies beneath his veil!
Neither by day nor night does he ever depart.

3. The night grows long for me without my departing beloved.
Thus passes the night for ardent lovers - so slow.

4. I restrain my blame from him and leave me be -
For I cannot bear the words of reproachers!

5. Let me die engulfed in his love and affection,
For to me the talk of blamers is so hard.

6. When I wish to ask after him, my yearning increases,
And how could I find solace when my heart ails so!

7. He who knows of love will excuse me,
While he who knows not of passion will blame me.

8. O my killer-love, go gently! Have mercy on a lover!
For a lover's sickness, no doubt, is stubborn.

9. When he shunned me and prolonged his estrangement,
I returned to the one who in all times is a friend.

10. Other than the reverent Shaykh, son of Rashid,
I have no one of mankind as a refuge and guarantor

11. And I took refuge in my brother Mas’ud and his munificence,
Whose clouds pouring forth, give drink to the wilderness and aged years.

12. Valiant, firm, hero! A horseman who never wavers!
He takes on a thousand and scarcely staggers.

13. A noble without peer, unique among the generous ones,
None other compares to him among the noble ones.

14. His gifts revive the prosperous ones. His palm
Is a rain cloud raining on people of the age.

15. So who is like Mas’ud, scion of Rashid,
Withhabitual generosity among mankind?

16. Though much poetry I have composed in praise of my master,
My asylum, O my companion, it is but little!
