1. Behold, your worldly life is but like a snake
So beware not to nestle too close therein

2. And be learned about it, not ignorant
Of its states, lest you grow intimate therein

3. For not equal are the learned and the ignorant
Of its states, nor those who peered within

4. Its people are but like a traveler
To his other home, who halted briefly therein

5. As for examples from the past, take heed thereof
And walk not confused in the open land

6. If you obey God in secret and openly
And obey Him not lewdly, then let down your train therein
