1. A letter came to me from a descendant of Muhammad
The sweet ally of affection, the people of affection

2. A young man from a generous Arab race
The lineage of Abdullah, the people of devotion

3. A letter came to me from you, O son of Muhammad
It was like cool refreshing water to my heart

4. When it came to me one morning and I read it
My heart flowed with memories of past friends and places

5. Of a neighborhood on the slope and playing fields
In Hoza and of Zaid, Amr and Mazid

6. I cannot forget the beautiful days and nights we had
Despite the envy of foes

7. Thoughts were crafted like precious gems
Its images made of pearls and emeralds

8. It came with prose and verse, its lines
Filled with images like well-arranged necklaces

9. You see in it the first fruits of meanings as though
Strands of pearls on the necks of maidens

10. The scent of musk diffuses when its perfume is spilled
Like the scent of roses on the cheeks of young women

11. Eloquent praise and polished greetings
Came from the master of the blackened tents

12. When I read the verse, my intellect boiled
With eloquence, like a sea whipped into waves

13. Do not think distance consoles the heart's friend
Even if they are in the furthest seat

14. Do not think troubles shake Muhammad
With the quakes and hatred of foes

15. Live in joy and stay in blessings
In prosperity, honor and eternal bliss
