1. A greeting that comforts the restless heart
And cures the illness of the frail invalid

2. And is more delicious than blended comfort
And sweeter than honey and ginger

3. It nurtures with the scent of the meadow's breeze
And is more delicious in taste than fresh water

4. It dispels the worries of the weary chieftain
Quenching and cooling the heat of fever

5. And makes one forget their sorrows
And forget the beloved and the meeting of the beloved

6. I confer it upon the agreeable governor
A harbinger of abundant generosity

7. The descendant of loyalty and purity, the young man
Muhammad the fragrant, the fulfilling

8. Generous, so very generous in bestowing charm
Yet miserly in matters of glory

9. The rescuer of orphans and lion of valor
Praiseworthy in effort and salvation of the visitor

10. If a questioner comes into his presence
He is not pleased to give but plenty

11. And if you seek his patronage
What an excellent supporter and guarantor

12. He is justice in all affairs he sees
And has no equal in honesty among men

13. And if people forget his kindness
I will not forget what good he has done

14. And I remain forever faithful to our pact
Settled, even if I live a very long life

15. And if I am tired of all that I see
My heart does not stray from loving him

16. O son of the lofty and glorious—one who
Through his benevolence, want becomes bereft

17. My affection for you is hidden in my innermost places
And I have no way to attain your company

18. I am a stranger since I left your side
And every stranger remains lowly and lonely

19. No past beloved has stirred my heart
Nor captivated me with transient beauty

20. Rather I have yearned for you
My heart is with me but my body is frail

21. You left me companion to sorrow
My tears flow down my cheeks
