1. My greetings of peace to the Guardian, the Trustee
Of generosity, beauty, and nobility

2. And to the Imam, our master and purifier
The most pious, dignified, the eminent and virtuous

3. Ocean of eloquence, Salim son of Muhammad
The honored one of piety and sublimity

4. He is my master, the sincere, the dignified, the chosen one
The most pure, of lofty ancestry and noble descent

5. Easygoing, an ascetic, devout
Just in his rulings for low or high

6. The foremost eloquent speaker with his generous speech
As though competing in valor and attainment

7. He is the one I befriend and love despite my severity
The most loyal of my companions, cure for my distress

8. So if I seek from fate its purposes
It relinquishes its own and strives for me

9. I still recall in the mornings and nights
Its joyfulness and intimacies

10. And we have long been together under protection
Delighting in the pleasure of connection

11. But today our unity has been torn asunder
Fragmented and severed are the ties

12. I am consumed by the fire of parting from my beloved
Pure love, far from the lands of others

13. Should I be blamed for loving him while he makes peace with me
Alone beyond all people in his traits

14. Within me burns an intense longing in anguish
If only it would be extinguished by the coolness of reunion

15. And parting from the one I love and severing of ties
With that, it strengthens its rope to my ropes

16. I am strengthened when his name is mentioned in a gathering
As if the child of youth has fallen in love with me

17. And I am seventy five years old, after so many have passed
When he appears, I become youthful again

18. And I forget every beloved brother in the world
And I refrain from my family and my children

19. When we are reminded and our conversation lasts
You know not if it is eve or dawn

20. Honor him, treat him well, that scholar of the world
Whom I have not seen except to improve my state

21. If I were tested with parting from a thousand companions
And I met him, I would not care

22. I have shed the garments of remaining after his absence
His nearing was more lasting for me

23. And my regret - I wasted my life after him
As a young sword, and my hopes withdrew

24. Oh you, my sincere friend who has never
Ceased to be beloved, echo my words

25. Be like your sincerity - your heart is not shaken
By my frequent saying among the people
