1. He whose tears of passion aren’t extravagance
If he becomes ecstatic in Damascus from lightning

2. And the gloomy one when he remembers his loved ones
Yearns for Sanaa, longing, and ardor

3. And when lightning flashes toward Jebel Bariq
He yearns intensely, loves intensely, and desires intensely

4. My neighbor has suffered except for his passion for them
Without his passion for them I wouldn’t have suffered from love

5. Whoever has once suffered from love and fervor
And his loved ones abandoned him, he is most suffering

6. And if after nearness they replace him with distance
After emaciation from estrangement, he won’t suffer

7. I spent nights shedding tears
And shrouds that weren't saturated with tears

8. So have mercy on the afflicted one passionately loving you
He passionately loves you, so be gentle to him who became devoted to you

9. Join in passion with the obsessed one, for compassion
Is lasting for whom melancholy has become perpetual

10. Don’t prolong estrangement, for after
Your estrangement and separation from me, I won't remain

11. And refuse separation and distance, for I
Cannot endure the firm bond of love

12. I’m satisfied if it satisfies you
That you’ve killed me and what I’ve suffered from you and encountered

13. What passion has made me suffer suffices me, don't increase
Your disdain, for I've become downtrodden

14. I'm delighted with the wine of your passion
My whole life I've continued to sip and be sipped

15. Whenever I say I've descended from fervor in your love
Your lights have shown me ascension

16. Whenever I say I’ve awakened from love
Your lights have quenched me with a cup of salvation

17. And my praise of you, son of Sultan Saif
Has traveled west and east

18. He is the Lord of dew, father of Arabs, the sublime
Exalted above people in character and manners

19. He surpassed the people of all eras in origin and glory
Just as he surpassed them in nature and manners

20. He is most generous, his hand the most open in giving
And he is most pure in nobility and pedigree

21. He preceded the frontrunners in glory and generosity
And giving in the adornment of kingship, excelling

22. So rise, O son of nobles, above the highest rank
You have not ceased rising to the noblest virtues

23. Don’t care, for the matter of command and prohibition is yours
The world is for you, so obliterate the opponent, obliterating him

24. And leave the opponent, he cannot comply or obey
Diverting or opposing in speech

25. And pelt those who opposed and defied us in our matter
With destruction, and who turned away, defying

26. Be forgiving, be hopeful, speak openly, be tolerant, fast, protect, sustain, have mercy, endure
Be forgiving, protect, gain knowledge, yearn, guide, have mercy, strive, increase, honor, and be gentle

27. Pardon, overlook, speak, block, transcend
And build for me ascendable steps of glory that I may ascend

28. I have, in your presence, prolonged praising you
And your glories I have been most long-necked of all people

29. My poetry has flourished with you and wandered lost
Among the poets because it has become sincere

30. Any praise of others is nonsense
And nonsense leads to wretched stupidity

31. Praising the just imams was an obligation
While praising misguidance was injustice and sin

32. O descendant of the Imam Sultan Saif
You are most guided of all and most pious and reverent

33. O young man of the most praiseworthy and thanked
And beware the enemies’ effort, and be forbearing

34. For the forbearing, his time is characterized by caution
The people depend on you, so how can

35. You leave them to drown in your seas of generosity
And the kings of the world are your servants

36. And subjects unable to emancipate themselves

37. With features bearing no defects but
That they flash lightning at the enemies, flashing at them

38. By them faces whiten and darken
While the enemies’ faces blacken in rage and misery

39. It surpassed in meaning, softness, and expression
And the stringing grew long in precise, refined versification
