1. My beloved, grief and sorrow have pitched their tents
In my heart against my will, so what is your opinion of them?

2. They want to leave me no solace
And to leave my body lean and sickly

3. If they overpower me, roll up your sleeves and step forward
And if you cannot make me happy, then refrain

4. They have agreed on their matter and disagreed
And they have assembled against us a mighty army

5. Shall we confront them with humiliation and belittlement by force
Or is war more appropriate, lest they may regret

6. My cowardice told me to be calm
For we are not people of honor to retaliate against one who attacked

7. Nor over calamities are we people of strength
Nor are we the sons of kings to step forward

8. But my heart told me: prepare, for I
See myself appointed over your matters, resolute

9. Did you not see me in adversities a strong brother
Ardent and in calamities biting my lips in determination

10. And I do not complain to people about a misery
With which I was afflicted, even if my body was shattered

11. Say to the people of this world, and this world, that I
Am steadfast even if it was content to see me collapse

12. It is the same to me, the war of time and its peace
When patience is with me I feel no pain

13. And I do not care if its twists serve me
A cup of clear wine or murky water

14. I am the man whose heart is not startled by any news
Nor any voice of melody if it hummed

15. The beautiful trilling of a warbler does not please me
Nor the voice of a reveler in the branches murmuring

16. Nor did the longing for the separation of loved ones stir me
Unless they tasted from my separation regret

17. And I am content with the easiest livelihood from my fate
If I do not find a day except dates for food

18. I will turn myself away from ambitious cravings
Even if I never find a single dirham in my palm

19. And whatever the Merciful decrees for me
I will accept it willingly and not complain

20. For I know that I own not a single dirham
And complaining does not benefit, so I ward it off with

21. I will bow my back to it and carry its burden
Even if it shattered a canal from me and worse

22. I will have a patience the patience falls short of
Until patience cries out from me in pain

23. Otherwise, I am not the courageous hero
Who is shrouded in the clothes of fortitude and temerity

24. And if fate plucked my wing feathers
I will not complain to the enemy, lest he smiles

25. Nor complain to a friend, confiding
So he remains sad, unable to speak

26. I will conceal my secret from both near and far
Even if my heart was poisoned with toxins

27. For each has a lifespan, and for lifespan an end
When it finishes, dressing will not benefit, nor what has passed

28. I grew accustomed to misfortunes until I became friendly with them
So when they visited me, they did not increase me in determination

29. Am content with what I was given, little or much
They say do not cry for the death of relatives

30. Is crying forbidden for you?
So I said to them: No, but if it is beneficial

31. I cried for the loss of our loved ones with tears
I cry for others while I know for certain

32. That I will follow those who went before me
So if I have reason, I cry with tears

33. For a lifetime I wasted until it crumbled
And if I cry at times out of inevitable necessity

34. How many Muslims before me cried before being Muslim
And if I cry for a beloved, Jacob before us

35. Cried for Joseph until it harmed him
And when I saw reason and heart agree

36. To war against opposites - to God I submit
I discarded weakness and inability, for a young man who

37. Made patience and success his ladder
I resolved, so we assembled armies of sorrow

38. We defeated with them the army of worries with perseverance
So whoever is with God, God is with him

39. And he succeeded in what he hoped, a great success
We won and came out safe by His help

40. With mighty victory we had hoped for before
Whoever fears the Merciful, He will make for him refuge

41. Impenetrable, and provide him piety and bliss
With the houris and young lads in a garden of paradise

42. Abiding therein, given to drink sealed nectar
But if he disobeys Him intentionally and openly and does not repent

43. And dies stubborn, he will reach the fire of Hell
Tormented therein forever and endless, and does not

44. Find a single refuge to which he escapes and is safe
So whoever prefers disobedience, this is his recompense

45. And every person is recompensed for what he forwarded
I seek refuge in You, O God, from the evil of a refractory

46. Devil who sees harm as booty if it touches us
And from the evil of obsessions that occur to my mind

47. And from the insinuations of devils whenever
And forgiveness for a servant who admits his sin

48. Surely You are Forgiver of sins, Most Generous
Surely You are Of Forgiveness and Pardoning the one

49. Who confessed repentantly after what he did of wrongdoings
And besides You are those of affection and companionship

50. Who related on the margins of prose, strung poems
It is the nectar, rather sweeter to every hearer

51. And more delicious than fresh water to the thirsty
It consoles the hearts of those who lost loved ones

52. And makes the boy forget the honored father
In that it purifies all filth

53. And removes resentment and delusions from the heart
And I called it the heart’s and eye’s solace

54. And empowerment during tribulations whenever
And I did not say about it of strength and encouragement

55. And purification of the self except what I understood
And my intention is only the pleasure of God alone

56. And the solace of a servant who endured worries
Come, study it at all times, for it

57. Becomes talismans, and for the heart a salve
It bequeaths in the heart of the coward boldness

58. And the heart of the person increases from it knowledge
Whoever has reason, even if ignorant

59. Becomes from it, if he masters it, learned
It has the forelocks of precedence in every adornment

60. If present, it surpasses scarlet and darker
If you miss it one day, you would think it is

61. The radiance of light that poured from the sky
Or the houris from the gardens of Eden descended

62. Your reward for good deeds you forwarded
And pray to the God of the Throne however long the breeze blew

63. Upon Ahmad, best of mankind, and send peace upon him.
