1. O soul, you are an adversary
Of contradictory natures

2. And you turned away from good advice
And did not follow its purposes

3. So face towards me, do not turn away
From me, for you are distancing

4. One day you must, inevitably
Head to the graves, intending

5. O soul, repent and return
Do not distance, withdrawing

6. Do not despair, be with me
In both states, helping

7. Be with me in all that
Pleases the God, struggling

8. And be comfortable, then be patient
For in patience is benefit

9. Fear the punishment and beware
Of Satan and his schemes

10. And leave evil and fear
God, bowing in worship

11. And wake up and be certain
That if I die, you will return

12. Do not follow the ways of passion
And the corrupt endeavors

13. For the trade of corruption in
The market of virtues is bankrupt

14. And when a youth attains glory
Do not be envious of him

15. For if you obey, you will reside
In the gardens of Eden, eternal

16. Reaping of its fruits
Ripe or unripe

17. In it is lasting bliss
Beneath cool shades

18. With fair maidens
With dark eyes, gazing

19. Like hidden pearls
On beds seen adjacent

20. So enjoy and drink
From rivers rushing

21. The jujube and pomegranate
On its branches clustered

22. Description falls short of the virtues
Of their bliss and the feast

23. And if you disobey, you will fall
In the pit of Hell, blazing

24. What can describers say
Of it, and it will not diminish

25. If they elaborated describing it
For ages, it would increase

26. O soul, this is negligence
Of it, though you will arrive

27. Why do I repeat their flaws
With Khalid or Khalidah

28. Do you not see the flaws of your soul
Like mountains piled up

29. And I see that you backbite
Every brother of untainted pillars

30. Shall we deny the deed
That you do while you are witnessing

31. Your tongue said the place
Of guesses, while it is sitting

32. The tongue said my mobilizer
Is a heart that followed its purposes

33. And the heart said I do not know
To gather the dispersed's gathering

34. The eye, then the eye, shame
On the destinations, arriving

35. The eyes said my mobilizer
Is an ear, though I am sleeping

36. And the ear said my sender
Is a heart, so I became the leader

37. Each has claimed a claim
And it is not beneficial

38. They said come let us arbitrate
For the body is the judge of purposes

39. So they unanimously accepted the judgement
And Hell is the abode of the deniers

40. So it judged that the heart is a sultan
Over them, presiding

41. For the heart is the sultan of all
Emotions, O praiser

42. So when corruption appears from it
The subjects are corrupt

43. And when reform appears from it
The subjects are righteous

44. So praise be to God who
Opened the sleeping eyes
