يا عاذلي أين سمعي منك والعذل

1. O you who blame me, where is your hearing of me and blame?
Ask it, though every eyelid it has adorned kohl.

١. يا عاذِلي أَينَ سَمعي مِنكَ والعَذل
أَسلوهُ كَلّا وَطَرفٍ زانَهُ الكَحلُ

2. If I intend passion, my heart is not with the first one
Whose cheeks blushed red and languished.

٢. إِن هِمتُ وَجداً فَما قَلبي بِأَوَّلِ مَن
أَودَت بِهِ الوَجناتُ الحُمرُ وَالمُقَلُ

3. Speak of the memory of my youths, no wonder
I who by my passion proverb is struck.

٣. حَدِّث بِذِكرِ صَباباتي فَلا عَجبٌ
أَنا الَّذي بِغَرامي يَضرِبُ المَثَلُ

4. He walks, so his stature treats lovers
As the withered juiceless date palm treats them not.

٤. يَمشي فَتَفعَلُ بِالعُشّاقِ قامَتُهُ
ما لَيسَ تَفعَلُهُ العَسّالَةَ الذُبلُ

5. I visit the gazelle while she turns to look
And make the bough feel shy as she stands balanced.

٥. أَزرى عَلى الظَبي جيداً وَهوَ مُلتَفِتٌ
وأخجَل الغُصنَ قَدّاً وَهوَ مُعتَدِلُ

6. He approaches so the slim thread of the tailor welcomes me
As the plain and the mountain narrow for me when distant.

٦. يَدنوا فَيَرحبُ بي سُمّ الخِياطِ كَما
يَضيقُ بي حينَ يَنأى السَهلُ وَالجَبلُ
