1. O my love, grace me with a kiss

١. يا قِبلَتي جُدلي بِقُبلَه
تطفي جَوىً وَتَبلُ غُلَّه
2. And grant me the gift of your acceptance
Which you could easily bestow if you so wished
٢. وَاِمنُن عَلَيَّ بِزَورَةٍ
هِيَ لَو تَشاءُ عَلَيكَ سَهلَه
3. Without you, I would not have woken up
Having taken this passion as my faith and inspiration
٣. لَولاكَ ما أَصبَحتُ مُت
تَخِذَ الهَوى ديناً وَمِلَّه
4. And I would not have borne from you
That which no one else could withstand
٤. وَحَمَلتُ فيكَ مِنَ الأَسى
ما لَم يُطِق غيلان حَملَه
5. Who allowed you, my master
To take lives, who made it lawful?
٥. مَن ذا أباحَكَ سَيِّدي
قَتلَ النُفوس وَمَن أَحَلَّه
6. By God, pity me for my agony of love for you, by God
By the honor of the sea captain
٦. بِاللَهِ رقَّ لِما أُكا
بِدُ مِن غَرامٍ فيكَ بِاللَه
7. Above all people, his justness is revered
A yearning lover who forgot his vows
٧. بِأَبي أَميرِ مَلاحَةٍ
دونَ الأَنامِ حرِمتُ عَدلَه
8. And whose connection was severed
How could it harm you if you gained
٨. يُفديكَ مُشتاقٌ نَسي
تَ عُهودَهُ وَصِرَمتَ حَبلَه
9. Some acceptance and kindness?
Yet my patience in my love for you
٩. ماذا يَضُرُّكَ لَو مَلَك
تَ مِنَ الرِضى وَالعَطف خَصلَه
10. Lessens when you are away
And the smitten one remained as such
١٠. وَكَثيرُ صَبري في هَوا
كَ إِذا بَعُدت فَما أَقَلَّه
11. Until he became a parable among lovers
Far be it from you, after such glory
١١. وَمُتَيَّمٌ ما زالَ حَتّى
صارَ في العُشّاقِ مِثلَه
12. To be content with debasing your servant
Reconcile with the companion of the smitten eyelid
١٢. حاشاكَ بَعدَ العِزِّ أَن
تَرضى لِعَبدِكَ بِالمَذَلَّه
13. And dedicated heart
You took some of my heart desiring it
١٣. صِل صاحِبَ الجَفنِ القَري
حِ عَلَيكِ وَالقَلبُ الموَلَّه
14. Yet you took all of it
By God, how difficult is your cruelty
١٤. أَعطَيت حُبَّكَ بَعضَ قَل
بي رَغبَةً فَأَخذتَ كُلَّه
15. And the severe tribulations, but how sweet it is
I contended with those who blamed you
١٥. لِلَهِ خَطبُ جَفائِكَ الصَع
ب الشَدائِد فما أَجَلَّه
16. When the evidence was clear
And I knew the fault was in
١٦. جادَلتُ فيكَ عَواذِلي
إِذ قامَ ذَلِكَ بِالأَدِلَّه
17. That sweet-tongued blamer - he was misguided
You have a mouth that if likened
١٧. وَعَلِمتُ أَنَّ اللَومَ في
ذاكَ اللَمى المَعسول ضلَّه
18. Would be like the hand of Ibn Muqlah
And the posture of a slender palm tree that would
١٨. لَكَ مُقلَةٌ لَو شُبِّهَت
كانَت كَصاد يَدِ اِبن مُقلَه
19. Lose its mind if the morning breeze blew in the orchard
It scattered the collected pearls
١٩. وَقَوامُ قَدٍّ ما لَوَت
ريحُ الصَبا في الدَوحِ عَقلَه
20. And you gathered them with branches
I consulted the sultan of passion about my story
٢٠. شَتَّتَ شَملَ سُلُوِّهِ
وَجَمَعتَ بِالأَشجانِ شَملَه
21. Yet I was denied his justice
A king whose stirrups are kissed
٢١. طالَعت سُلطانَ الغَرا
مِ بِقِصَّتي فَحُرِمتُ عَدلَه
22. By the thoroughbred when honored

٢٢. مَلِكٌ إِذا عُدَّ الفَخا
رُ تُقبّل الجَوزاءُ نَعلَه
23. And the rest of creation his ants
٢٣. أَضحى سُلَيمانَ الزَما
نِ وَسائِرُ الثَقَلَينِ نَملَه
